The present invention relates to a soap shaver particularly designed for use in making soap chips to be used in the laundry and washing machine such as are now commonly in use. 1

The important object of the invention resides in the provision of a soap shaver of this nature which is exceedingly simple in its construction, inexpensive to manufacture,

easy to manipulate, compact and convement in its arrangement of parts, thoroughly efiicient and reliable in use and operation, and otherwise well adapted to thepurpose for which it is designed. v

Referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that the numeral 5 denotes a base from which rises a pedestal formed by a pair of vertically disposed and abutting strips 6 secured together in any suitable manner and having right angularly extending feet 7 at the bottom ends thereof screwed or otherwise fastened to the base 5 as at 8.

One of the strips 6 at its upper end is offset as is indicated at 9 while the upper end of the other strip is bent at right angles to extend. out laterally as at 10 and is bent upwardly as at 11 and then bent downwardly over upon itself as at 12 to extend down to a point considerably below the extension 10 and then extends outwardly and laterally as at 14 and terminates iii a rising portion 15.

A shaft 16 is journalled through the ends 9 and the portions 11 and 12 and on the end to the outside of the portion 9 is formed with a crank 17. A cutting disk 18 is mounted'on the other end of the shaft by means of washer and nut 19. This disk 18 is provided with a plurality of radially extending elongated blades 20 struck therefrom so as to extend obliquely therefrom leaving elongated slots and the disk is further provided with a plurality of radially extending smaller blades -21 also struck therefrom to leave slots and extending obliquely therefrom as is clearly illustrated in Figure 4.

A hood H is preferably in the form of sheet metal bent over upon itself to provide an outer side 22 and an inner side 23. The inner side 23 is secured to the portion 10 by suitable means 24. A substantially angular shaped notch is formed in the end edge of the front 22 of the hood H and has an outwardly extending flange 25 projecting therefrom to form a shoulder in which a cake of soap may be placed so that when the crank is turned the soap may be forced into proper position to be chipped off by the

21 and 20 so as to be thrown against the slanting bight ortion 27 of the hood H and thereby be de ected downwardly intoa suitable container 28 or the like.

It is thought that the construction, operation, utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in the art without a more detailed description thereof.

The present embodiment of the invention has been disclosed in considerable detail merely for the purposes of exemplification since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the inventionand the above description.

It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:

1. An apparatus of the class described including a pair of vertical strips disposed in abutment to each other and having at their lower ends feet, the upper end of one strip being offset and the upper end of the other strip being curved to extend outwardly at right angles and to merge into an upstanding portion which in turn merges into a depending portion lying there alongside and terminating below the first mentioned portion, and

said last mentioned portion merging into an outwardly extending portion which terminates in a riser, a shaft journalled between the second and third mentioned portion and the offset end, a crank on the shaft and a cutting disk on the shaft.

2. An apparatus of the class described including a pair of vertical strips disposed in abutme t to each other and having at their lower ends feet, the upper end of one strip being offset and the upper end of the other strip being curved to extend outwardly at right angles and to merge into an upstanding portion which in turn merges into 2. depending portion lying there alongside and terminating below the first mentioned por tion, and said last mentioned portion merging into an outwardly extending portion which terminates in a riser, a shaft journalled between the second and third mentioned portion and the offset end, a crank on the shaft and a cutting disk on the shaft, said cutting disk including a plurality of blades projecting from one side thereof obliquely.

3. An apparatus of the character described comprising a pair of vertical strips together and having feet at their lower ends, the upper end portions of the strips being offset and disposed in spaced, opposed relation to each other, one of said offset portions merging into a depending portion which extends below said one oti'sct portion, the depending portion merging into a horizontal portion terminating in a riser, a shaft journaled between the offset portions and extending through the depending portion, a cutting disk fixed on the shaft adjacent the depending portion, and a hood disposed adjacent the disk, said hood formed of a single sheet of metal bent upon itself in a manner to provide integrally connected front and rear sides disposed adjacent the corresponding sides of the disk, the rear side secured to said one offset portion and the front side secured to the riser.
