Abstract
630,765. Shoe welting. BARBOUR, P. E.,. BARBOUR, W. G., and BARBOUR, R. H. (trading as BARBOUR WELTING CO.). Aug. 7, 1947, No. 21660. Convention date, Nov. 29, 1945. [Class 17 (ii)] A welt strip is cut to produce a two-unit welt which is in some cases wider than that usually produced from a given width blank. A slanting cut 23, a horizontal lateral cut 24 adjacent to the grain surface, and a short cut through the grain surface produces two units 25, 26, Fig. 5. The unit 26 is placed below and is moulded and cemented to the unit 25 with the grain lip 27 cemented to the edge, as. shown in Fig. 6, to produce a welt strip having a receding welt shoulder with an inseam flange below it. In modifications, the angles of the cuts are varied to produce different welt shapes but the angle between the cuts 23, 24 is always obtuse. In some cases, Fig. 8, one unit is inverted before moulding and cemented at its flat flesh side to the upper unit so as to form an elevated inseam flange 34, particularly advantageous for shoes with receding toes, which may be trimmed flush without severing the inseam stitch which passes through the crease 36 at the bottom of the receding shoulder. Specification 308,930, [Class 17 (ii)], is referred to.
