FRANK F. PARKER, OF GARDNER, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN .FOLDING CHAIRS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 181,100, dated August 15, 1876; application filed July 22, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK F; PARKER, of Gardner, county of Worcester, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Folding-Chair Case, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figures 1 and 2 represent vertical longitudinal sections of my improved folding chair, showing the same, respectively, in open and folded position and of reliable operation; and the invention consists of a folding chair made of a back section, that is pivoted by its recessed ends to tixed projecting-pins of the swinging rear-leg section, while the front-leg section is extended above the seat pivoted to the back, and hinged by a lateral cross-piece to staples of the rear leg.
in the drawing, A represents the back section of my improved folding chair; B, the rear-leg section, and G the front-leg section. The back section is connected by curved inside recesses a, at the lower end to fixed projecting pins 11 of the rear legs B, so that the pins slide readily when opening and folding the chair from one end of the recesses to the other. The pivot-pins form supporting-points for the chair, the back extending only the length of the recesses below the same.
A second support is given to the chair by the curved front legs 0, that are pivoted at the upper end to the back section, and connected by a cross-piece, d, to staples c of the rear legs. The rear legs stretch the seat and swing readily on the cross-piece of the front legs, and along the recessed ends of the back section into folded or open position, forming a rigid and steady chair when in open position, and taking up a small space in folded position.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patcut is- I. As an improvement in folding chairs, the combination of the back sectioii, having curved recesses near the ends, with the swinging rearleg section, having fixed projecting pins, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. The combination of the recessed back section, swinging rear-leg section, having fixed pins and holding-staples, and of the front legs, pivoted to the upper part of the back, and by a cross-piece to the staples of the rear legs, substantially in the manner described, and for the purpose specified.
