IMPROVEMENT IN COOKlNG-STOVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 18 [,090, dated August 15, 1876; application filed June 3, 1876.
My improvement relates to an ash-box 10- cated below the perforated bottom of the ashpit, and provided with a register in its side to admit air, so that the ash-box may be utilized as a fire-box, as hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is partly a plan View and partly a horizontal section of a stove constructed according to my invention. Fig. 2 is partly a side elevation and partly a sectional elevation; and Fig. 3 is a front elevation.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
In the annexed drawing, A is the ash-box, which I propose to apply under the ordinary ash-box B, with slotted or perforated openings 0 through the bottom plate D for the ashes to fall into it, over which is a damper, E, for closing said openings, to prevent the dust from rising up through them when the ashes are being removed from the box A. The hearthF is provided with a pot-hole, G, and a register,
H, is fixed in the Front side of the ash-box A to admit air, so as to utilize the ash-pit B by the aid of the perforated bottom D, for a tirebox for cooking on the hearth when the capacity of the other cooking-holes is not suflicient. The bottom D of the ash-pit is extended all the way from the hearth to back plate I of the fire-box. The grate-bars M are fitted in sockets in front and rear bars J L, to adapt them to be separately removed. The oven-doors N 0 are provided with mica panels P, and respectively adapted to turn down and swing horizontally, so that the one may be out of the Way of the other, when both are open.

In a cooking-stove, the ash-box A, having the register H in its front side for admission of air, when the ash-box is employed as a firebox, the perforated bottom plate D, and the hearth F,covering the ash-pit B, as shown and described, for the purpose specified.
