SWING CONSTRUCTION Filed on. 9. 1930 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Inuenlor A llorney Patented une 16, 1931 v UNITED STATES SWING CONSTRUCTION Application filed October 9, 1930.- Serial N'o. 487,594.
This invention relates to an improved swing construction which is primarily designed for use by small childrenQespecially babies. I 5 The purpose of the invention is to provide a swing which'is equipped with a fan, which is operatively connected'with the chair portion of the swing so that as the swing moves to and fro, the fan will be automatically actu- 10 ated for creating a cooling breeze and for fanning away flies and insects.
The particular construction will become more readily apparent from the following description and drawings.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is an elevational view of the complete structure as developed in accordance with the present inventive conception.
Figure 2 is a detail view showing the fan 2 arrangement and mounting.
Figure?) is a perspective'view' of the fan per se. r I
Figure i is a detail section on the line 4+4 of Figure 2. y
Referring to the drawings by reference numerals, it will be observed that the ordinal 5 designates generally a support which is here shown as comprising suitable uprights '6 and headpieces 7 and braces 8. Thenumer- 30 al 9 designates a suspension bar. Attached to this bar at suitably spaced points are hanger eye bolts 10". Mounted in these are rings 11 with which the upper suspension chains or ropes 12 are connected.
The lower end portions ofthese ropes are fastened in .any suitable manner with the chair 13 as shown in Figure 1. The fan comprises a plate or equivalent element 14 having a rocker board 15 attached to the upper end.
At its ends, this rocker board is provided '7 with trunnions or journals 16 mounted for oscillation in the eyes of the suspension bolts 10. v V e V The means for actuating'the fan comprises pull cables 17 attached at their lower ends to eyes 19 on the rocker board 15.
nection with the drawings.
' necessary.
was
the chair 13 and having their upper end porit I tions trained over guide pulleys 18 on the frame structure. The inner laterally directed end portions of these cables are fastened to It is obvious therefore, that when the swing moves back and forth in a customary manner, the cable 17 willexert a pull in systematic relationship on the rocker board 15. This will in turn swing the fan blade or board 14 to develop air circulation and to fan away insects and flies.
The gist of the invention is in the provision of a suitable supporting frame and an appropriate chain supported swing, together with a fan having its mounting associated with the suspension means for the swing, and pull cords or cables operativelyfconnected with the fan and chair portion of the swing.
This therefore provides an automatic and convenient means for developing a circulation of air for. cooling purposes and at the same time fanning away flies.
The conception comprehends a simplified it and economical arrangement which fulfills the requirements of a structure of this class in a highly satisfactory'mannen.
It is thought that .persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates will be able to obtain a clear understanding oft-he invention after considering the description in con- Therefore, a more lengthy description is regarded as un- Minor changes in shape v size, and rearrangement of details coming within the field of invention claimed may be resorted to in actual practice if desired;
I claim:
In a swing structure of the class described, a support, suspension eye bolts carried thereby and dependingtherefrom, a chair, suspension elements connected at their lower ends with the chair and rockably connected at their upper ends with the eye portions of said screws, a fan blade, a rocker block attached to the upper end thereof, said block being provided at its opposite ends with trunnions mounted for oscillation in the eye portions of 5 said suspension screws, guide pulleys on said support, pull cables connected at their lower ends with said chair having their upper end portions trained inwardly toward each other over the pulleys, and said inner end portions being operatively connected with said rocker oard.
In testimony, whereof I aflix my signature.
