UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PETER F. CAMPBELL, -O13 JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHAMBERS AND URINALS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 181,037, dated August 15, 1876 application filed March 1 1876.
To all-whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER FLOAMPBELL, of Jersey City, in the State of New Jersey, have invented an Improvement in Chambers or Urinals, of which the following is a specification:
The device to which this invention relates is an elevated chamber-vessel with a base, forininga new article of manufacture. Chambers are usually of but little height, so that they are inconvenient to sit upon, especially if the person is large and heavy. Wooden stools and chairs have been adapted to receive such vessels, but they are not cleanly, and are very objectionable in appearance.
1 make use of a base for supporting the chamber, and raising it from the floor sufliciently for the upper end to be a convenient height for sitting upon, said base forming a foot to the chamber itself, or upon which the chamber can rest.
In the drawing I have represented my invention by means of a vertical section.
The chamber a is of any usual or desired internal shape,-and made with the rim b, and, preferably, with a handle, 0. This chamber and its base may be of porcelain or any suitable material. The based is sufficiently broad to form a firm support for the chamber, and of a height that will raise the top edge of the chamber to the desired height from the floor, and the chamber a and base 61 are firmly connected, so that there will not be risk of the chamber upsetting; and I prefer to have the base and chamber all in one piece of porcelain, but the base may be separate from the chamber,- there being a recess upon the one for re ceiving the projection of the other, as indicated by the dotted lines at 3 3.
This improved chamber is very useful, especially in the sick-room, and for ladies use.
I claim as my invention The hollow foot or base d, connected to and combined with the chamber-vessel, to elevate the same from the floor and sustain it, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
Signed by me this 13th day of March, A. D.
PETER F. CAMPBELL. Witnesses:
