This invention'relates to electric hair clippers, and the object of the invention is to provide a hair clipper in which the principle of operation is similar to that of the hair clipper shown in my Patent No. 1,746,567 issued February 11, 1930.
Oneof the particular objects of the invention is to provide a hair clipper in which a stationary member is provided having extending arms on which the stationary clipper blade is mounted and arranged so that the opera-ting parts of the clipper are also mounted and supported on the said member together with the handle or casing enclosing the saine.
Another object of the invention is to provide a hair clipper having a cylindrical handle or casing to t the hand and arranged so that the handle which forms the casing l may be readily attached to or removed from the device to allow access to the operating mechanism.
A further object of the invention is to pro- Y vide an arm for vibrating the movable clipper -blade over the face of the stationary clipper blade, the arm being provided with a yieldable mounting whereby the movable clipper blade may vibrate parallel to the stationary clipper blade, while the said arm is movable through an arc.
Another object of the invention is to. pro vide a stationary member on one side of which the electro-magnet for operating the movable blade is mounted and on the other side of which the stationary blade is mounted, the said member being also arranged to receive and support the handle or casing which encloses the electro-magnet.
These objects and the several novel features of the invention are hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and the preferred form of construction by which these objects are attained is shown in the accompanying drawings in which- Fig. 4 is a section taken on line 4,-4 of Fig: 2. F. ign). 5 is a section taken on line 5-5 of `ig. 6 is a section/showing a one piece handle-or c asin As shown in igs. 1, 2, 3 and 5, the device comprises a circular member 1 which is y formed to provide an annular shoulder 2 of smaller diameter than the portion 1. This portion 1 is provided with a air of integrally cast'arms 3 extending there rom and secured to the outer ends of the arms 3 is a stationary clipper blade 4. Secured to the inner face of the stationary member 1, as shown in Figs. 3 and' 5, is an angle bracket 5 which is secured in place by the screws 6 extending through the member 1. This angle bracket is provided with a pair of elongated slots 7 through ywhich the screws 8 extend into the laminated iron core 9.
The iron core 9 is built up from a series of substantially T-shaped laminations and a coil 10 is Wound about the central portion of the T-shaped core. This angle bracket 5 supports the iron core 8 and coil 10 in stationary position in relation to the member 1 As shown in Fig. 1, a bracket 11 is provided with` apertures to receive the screws 12 and these screws extend through one end of a U-shaped spring member 13. The opposite end of the U-shaped spring member 13 is provided with apertures for the screws 14 which extend through the member 13 and into the U-shaped laminations 15 which form the armature of the electro-magnet. The laminations 15 are secured together by the rivets 16, while the laminations 9 are secured together by the rivets 17. A vibratable arm 18 is provided which extends through the slot 19 in the member 1, as shown in Fig. 3, and is attached .to the laminations 15 by two of the rivets 16 by which these laminations are secured together. This arm 18 is provided with an opening in the center and is formed to provide a pair of upwardly extending ends 20. These ends 20 extend vin parallel relation with the stationary clipper blade 4. Connecting the two ends 20 of the arm 18 is a thin sheet metal member 21 through the center of which two screws extend and these screws also extend through a narrow bar 23, shown in Figs. 2 and 4 and into the movable clipper blade 24. As the sheet metal member 21 is formed from thin sheet metal, the movable clipper blade may have a slight pivoting action in relation to the arm 18 so as to engage fiat against the face of the stationary clipper blade 4 during vibration of the arm 18.
The handle comprises a cylindrical tube 25 of bakelite, hard rubber, metal or other suitable material and the end of this tubular casing or handle fits over the shoulder 2 on the member 1, as shown in Figs. 1, 3 and 5. At the opposite end, a cap 26 is provided having a shoulder 27 which fits within the end of the tubular casing or handle 25 and a screw 28 extends lthrough the cap 26 and is threaded into the end of the stationary .bracket 11 to secure the casing or handle in fixed relation with the member 1. This cap 26 is provided with openings 29 for ventilation and is also provided with a threaded hard` rubber conduit 30 through which the wires 31`and 32 extend to the coil 10. The opposite ends of the wires 31 and 32 are adapted for connection to a source of alternating current.
With the device connected in an electric circuit, the alternating current flows through the coil 10 and by reason of the alternating current, the portion 15 of the electro-magnet is vibrated in accordance with the alternations of the current. As theV member 15 is supported on the'spring member 13, the ends of the U-shaped laminations are normally held in spaced relation with the laminations 9, as shown in Fig. 1, while the current alternations tend to draw the laminations 15 toward the laminations 9. This gives the member 15 a vibratory movement whose amplitude is equal to the space 33 between the laminations 9 and 15.
As the arm 18y is secured to the laminations 15, the arm 18 is vibrated therewith and vibrates the movable clipper blade 24 accordingly. This moves the teeth on the movable clipper blade over the teeth of the stationary clipper blade to ive a shearing action. As the movement cfg the arm 18 is through an arc whose pivot lpoint is substantially the center of the semi-circular portion of the spring member 13, the semi-yieldable thin sheet metal member 21 allows the movable clipper blade to move parallel to the stationary clipper blade, while the actual movement of the ends 2O of the arm 18 is through a fiat arc. B ymeans of the screws 8 extending through t e slots 7 the electromagnet may be adjustedin position in relation to the member 1 to adjust the position of the ends 20 of the arm 18 and the movable blade 24 in relation to the stationaryblade 4.
An alternative form of the device. is shown in Fig'. 6 in which the tubular handle or casing 25 is formed integrally with the cap 26. This construction is an alternative orm which reduces the number of parts.
From the foregoing description it becomes evident that the device is very simple and efficient in operation, is very sanitary due to the construction which prevents accumulation of hair about the blades, and provides a. construction in which the operating mecha nism is readily accessible by removal of the handle or casing for adjustment or repair.
Having thus fully described my invention, its utility and mode of operation, what I claim and desire to secu e by Letters Patent of the United States is- 1. In an electric hair clipper, a tubular handle or casing, a cap mounted in one end thereof, a stationary member fitting in the opposite end thereof, a pair of arms extending from the stationary member, a stationary clipper blade mounted on the saidl arms, an electro-magnet mounted on the stationary member and extending within the tubular handle or casing, a U-shaped metal spring member secured at one end to the electromagnet, an armature secured to the opposite end of the metal spring member a bracket secured to the electro-magnet and terminating adjacent the cap, a screw extending through the cap and threaded into the bracket, a vibratable arm secured to the armature, the stationary member being provided with a slot through which the vibratable arm extends, a sprin metal stri secured to the end of the vibrata le arm an a movable clipper blade secured to the spring metal strip and iding in contact with the stationary c ipper la e.

In an electric hair cli per, a stationary member having a pair o arms extending from one side thereof, a stationaryclip er blade secured to the said arms, a mova le clipper blade slidable in relation to the stationary clipper blade, an electro-magnet o mounted on the stationary member on the side opposite the said arms, means for adjusting the lposition of the electro-magnet in relation to t e stationary member, a U-shaped spring member secured to the electro-magnet 25 at one end, an armature secured to the opposite end of the said spring member, the stationary member being rovided with a slot, a vibratable arm exten ing through the slot and secured at one end to the armature, the so vibratable arm bein provided with a air of spaced terminal en s, a sprin meta strip secured to the terminal ends o the arm, the sprin metal stri being connected to the mova le clipper b ade intermediate its ends and a casing for the electro-magnet secured to the stationary member.

In an electric hair clipper, a stationary member having an annular shoulder, a pair of arms extending from the stationary memo ber on the side opposite the said shoulder, an electro-magnet mounted on the stationary member and extending from the side opposite the said arms, an armature for the electromagnet, a vibratable arm secured thereto, the
