Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIGE.
GEORGE MCINTYRE, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
IMPROVEMENTl IN PROVISION-SAFES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 180,904, dated August 8, 1.876; application filed June 13, 1876.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE MCINTYEE, of San Francisco city and county, State of California, have invented an Improved Kitchen Accommodation-Chest; and I do hereby declare the following description and accompanying drawings are sufficient to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which it most nearly appertains to make and use my said invention without further invention or experiment.
My invention relates to an improved kitchen chest or4 cabinet, which is not only useful for holding articles used in cooking, but which is also provided with drawers and shelves for containing napkins, towels, cutlery, and other articles which are used in and about a kitchen and dining-room.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my chest, let A represent a chest or cabinet having` ahinged top or cover, B. The cover is constructed of a single panel, and this panel is depressed on the inside of the lid, so as to provide a recess in which the bread-board C will lie when not in use. A button, d, on each side of the depression or recess, can be turned' so as to fasten the board in the recess.
The arrangement of the box or chest is as follows: An upright partition, D, separates off one en'd ot' the box, so as to form the Hourbin E. A rail or ledge, f, is secured to the end of the chest inside of this bin, while a similar rail or ledge, j", is secured opposite it to the upper edge of the partition. The doughtray G is providedjwitha shoulder or ledge, fn, along the upper outside edge ot' its opposite sides, so that when the tray is set into the bin its ledges h will rest upon the rails or ledges f.
The dough-box is shallow, so that it only projects downward a short distance. into the bin, and it is not as long as the bin, so that it can be slid back or forth on the rails or ledges f f.
When the dough-box is pushed back against the rear side of the chest, a sufcient space is left in front of it toadmit the hand or arm of the cook into the flour-bin below, and this space, when itis not required to be open, is closed with a board,vH, which prevents dirt from entering the bin.
Along the rear side of the chest, between the' flour bin and opposite side, are constructed two or more small bins, I I I, each of which is provided with an independent lid or cover, J, and which are intended to hold salt, soda, or any other ingredient or article used in cooking. These bins need lnot extend down to the bottom of the chest. Between these bins and the front of the chest, and somewhat below the upper edge ol' the bins is a bottom, K, which forms a shallow box or table for the cook to work upon.
L L L are a series of drawers, which are placed one above the other in the middle of the chest, and which extend back to the bins I I I. These drawers can be drawn out at the front of the chest, and are useful for containing knives and forks, and other small table- 'furniture M is a cupboard-door, which opens to a series of shelves underneath the end of the bottom k, at the end of the chest opposite the flour-bin.
The lower shelves and drawers may extend entirely back to the rear side of the chestbins underneath the bins I. These shelves are used for containing table-cloths, napkins, and other kitchen and dining-room cloths.
I thus provide a very convenient and ornamental kitchen cabinet or chest.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim isl. An accommodation kitchen chest or cabinet A, having the top or cover B recessed on its under side, and having the buttons d, so as to provide a receptacle for the kneadingboard C, substantially as and for the purposes described.
2. A kitchen chest or cabinet, A, having the recessed top or cover B, and kneading-board C, flour-bin E, with its ledges ff', sliding doughbox G, and covering-board H, small bins I I I, table-bottom K, drawers L L L, and cupboard M, all combined and arranged substantially as and for the purposes described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
GEORGE MCINTYRE. lL. s.[
