This invention relates to a new and im proved type of poultry house embodying among other characteristics a dust room having communication with the nest and roost i6 compartment whereby fowls may avail themselves of the dust bath the year round to rid themselves of vermin. 1
Another object of the invention comprehends a projecting dormer formed as a continuation of the roof structure adjacent one end of the dust room.
An additional object of the invention contemplates water sheds carried upon the wall structure of the building and adapted to drain rain water away from the foundation 7 of the dust room whereby the dust will not harden through contact with rain water seepage.
More specifically stated drain pipes are arranged immediately beneath the bottom of the dust room to carry ofi any moisture in the soil beneath the building foundation.
lVith the above and other objects in view, the invention further consists in the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings 1 Figure 1 is an end elevation of my improved type of poultry house.
' Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view taken through the building structure.
Figure 8 is a side elevation of the invention.
Figure 4 is a vertical sectional view taken on line -14 of Figure 3.
Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates generally the building structure having a horizontally disposed partition 11, subdividing the interior of the building structure into rooms or compartments 12 and 13 respectively. The roof 14 for the building structure sheltering both of the rooms or compartments 12 and 13, respectively, terminates to provide an extension or dormer by projecting the eaves beyond the end wall of the room 13. The projecting roof portion end wall of the room13.
E-N' O FIC or extension15 is adapted to'preventrain front driving against the aforementioned-- wall of the room 13 and seeping throughthe ground soil within the room.
Thefoundation 16 for the building st-ruc ture is preferably composed of cement and whichretains an earth floor 17 for the room; provides three sides of a retaining 12 andwall for a dust pocketI18.- Said pocket 'is illed'with any available earth dust and may be filled to a level in line with that of the surface of the earth floor 17 Entrances 19 and 20 are provided 'inthe end wall of the room 13 and partition 11, wherebythe fowls first entering the poultry house may free themselves of vermin before passing through the entrance 20 and the room or compartment 21 may be effectively employed'as a combination roost and nest room;
From the illustration in Figure 4 of the drawings, earth is built up against the inner side walls of the concrete foundation 16 with in the room or compartment 13 to insulate the dust within the pocket from the foundation wall whereby the latter may not be hardened by moisture sweated through the foundation wall. a r y A drain pipe 21 of the configuration shown in Figure 1 of the drawings, and having openings 22 in the upper side thereof is bent upon itself at an intermediate point inits length and arranged beneath the floor ofthe room or compartment 12 to prevent moisture from finding its way into the dust pocket 18 in oppositely disposedrelation to that of the Water sheds 23, havin connection with the side walls of the buil ing structure and obliquely disposed therefrom, are extended appreciable distances beyond the eaves of the roof whereby excess rain fall and melted snow not carried off by the gutters 24 will drain thereon and be directed away from the building foundation.
Sky lights 25, carried by the roof 14, permit admission of sunlight to retain the dust in a dry state.
A door 26, hung upon one side wall of the room 13, a is provided with a ventilator 27 immediately above the upper sill therefor f r V 1,808,685
whereby excess dust may be exhausted therethrough when several fowls take a dust bath and shake themselves free of same and vermin.
The invention is susceptible of various changes'in its form, proportions and minor details of construction, and the right is herein reservetl'to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is I A poultry house having a partition subdividing same into multiple compartmentstlie entrance compartment having a .pit filledto 15 the level of the earth' fioor'within' the adjacent .compa men wi h .a suitable dust, a, wall (xi-earth of r hap m' tio su ting the contents o the p -fr m he ho s 111,-
