The present invention relates to cake lrnocker for oil pressers and has as its primary object the provision of means forv knocking the cakesfrom the boxes of an oil press by mechanism operable through the oil pres sure systems of the press.
Another very importa-nt object of the invention resides inthe provision of a mechanism of this character which is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, thor oughly efficient and reliable in use and op# eration, and otherwise well adapted to the purposev for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as thedescription proceeds7 the invention resides incertain novel features ofconstruction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter morefully described and claimed.

A casing C is mounted over these parts 8, i 9 and 10, and that side of the casing adjacent 'the press is openfor the full length of said casing. An I-.beam 14 depends from a hanger '15 having a roller 16 journalled therein and ridable on the upper surface of the I-beam 8. A plurality of extractor fingers 17 are xed to the depending beam 14and projects through the open side of the casing, said lingers having depending extensions 19 on their outerextremities to engage the calze 7 as shown to advantage in Figure 3.
Springs 21 have each one end thereof anchored to the beam 14, the opposite end vportionsof the springs adapted to extend through openings 30 formed in the wall 26 of the casing C to be ,anchored to the opposite ends of a bracket member 28 clamped as at 29 to a cylinder 25. V
As illustrated to advantage in Figures 1 and 2 this cylinder 25 projects through anv opening in the wall 26 of the casing C and through an opening inthe intermediate pore tion of the channel bar 9. Furthermore the cylinder 25 may be made of heavy piping and is closed at its outer endwith a screw threaded cap 25. A cylinder block 27 is fastended to the channel bar 9 and threadedlv engaged with the cylinder 25. as shown. plunger rod 22 is slidable in the cylinder 25 Yand eylinder blocks 27.v the' said rod 22 nrojecting outwardly of the said cylinder block 27 and having its outer end fixed as atv22 to an intermediate portion of the beam 14.
A valve 31 is disposed within the casing C and a conduit 32 leading from a suitable source of oil supply is incorporated with the Vvalve 31 in registry with the inlet opening 32 formed in the valve. a tion of the latch 52 said conduit 33 being incorporated therewith through the medium of a suitable connection 34, Diametrically opposite to the outlet opening 33 the valve is provided with an efthaust port 35 from which leads the exhaust pipe 35. The hollow valve core designated `generally by the reference character 36, and located within the casing is provided with the port 37, 38 and 39, respectively. Thus it will be seen that oil under pressure from the conduit will enter the valve 3l when the ports 37, and 38, respectively are in registry with the ports 32 and 33 whereby the oil received into the valve casing will be conducted through the conduit 33 into the cylinder block 27, to flow through the cylinder 25 for exerting pressure upon the rod 22, causing the rod 22 to push the beam 14 so as to push the finger 17 which in turn will push the cakes from the boxes. Under normal conditions of course it will be appreciated that the springs 21, and when the oilv pressure is released by t-he valve 3l in an automatic manner to be hereinafter described will cause the retraction of the lingers, the beam 14 being drawn back by the spring until said beam will almost touch the cylinder block.
To automatically control the valve 31 during` the operation of the press, there is provided an elongated rod 39, pivoted intermediate its ends to the frame l0 as at 39. As illustrated one end of this rod 39 is disposed beneath the reciprocating portion of the press for contact with the said sliding portion of the press during,r the operation of the same. At its opposite end the rod 39 has a pivotal connection 4l with a substantially vertically disposed rod 40. Adjacent its upper end and upon the inner face thereof, the rodA 40 has adjustably mounted thereon a block 42, the upper edge of which block is beveled as at 42. rEhe block 42 is provided with a slot 43, and a screw or bolt 44 extends laterally from the rod 40 and through said slot, the said screw 44 having a locking nut 45 threadedly engaged therewith and contacting with the block 42 so that the block may be maintained in an adjusted position longitudinally with respect to the rodf 40. Located within the casing C and adjacent the upper end of the rod 40, there is provided a suitable bracket 48. As illustrated, this bracket is somewhat T-shaped in formation, and has a downwardly depending lateral arm 47 to one end of which a. spring 46 is anchored, said spring at its opposite end being fixed to the inner end of the screw 44 for urging the rod 40 inwardly in contacting relation at its upper edge with a roller 49 rotatably supported on the body portion of the bracket 48, as at 50. A lock 52 is pivoted intermediate its ends as at 52 to the upstanding laterally ext-ending arm 5l of the said bracket, and it will be noted that the inner end poris adapted to normally rest between the flanges of the roller 49 as illustrated. At its opposite end the latch is suitably notched as at 53 for a purpose which will presently present itself.
The valve 3l is provided with a suitable operating member 54, said handle comprising an elongated straight portion 55, and at its opposite end being curved as at 5G. The handle of course is associated with the valve stem exteriorly of the upper end of the valve casing.
In Figures 9 and l0 are shown the positions of the valve and handle when the boxes 6 of the press have been moved upwardly for forcing' the oil out of the cakes 7. In this connection. it will be noted that the handle has its straight end engageable with the notch in the latch 52, said latch being in a substantially horizontal position and having its inner end resting upon the roller 49, as shown to advantage in Figure 8. A coil spring (5l is suitably anchored within the casing and is fixed to the handle 54 adjacent its curved portion 56 for maintaining the handle in engagement with the latch 52. When in this positionit will be seen that the ports 37 and 39 are in registry with the outlet port 33 and exhaust port 35 respectively, so that the oil may bey exhausted from the cylinder 25 for permittingl a downward movement of the boxes 6, after the cakes 7 have been pushed therefrom and the press begins its downward return movement.
Ae horizontal bar 57 has one end thereof fixed to the beam 14, as shown` in dotted lines in Figure l, and this har projects laterally from said beam. Slidably disposed upon the outer end of the bar 57 is a sleeve 58 which is provided with adetent 59. A spring 60 is coiled about the outer extremity of the rod 57 and has one end thereof anchored to the rod. the vopposite end of the spring being,r fixed to an adjacent end of the sleeve 58 acting` as a cushioning means for the sleeve.
Therefore it will be seen that during the exhaust of the oil from the cylinder 25 the plunger 22 is forced inwardly of the cylinder upon its return stroke, the springs 2l exerting pressure upon the beam 14 as is obvious.
As the oil is exhausted from the cylinder 25 it is apparent that the lower end of the movable portion of the press upon its downward stroke will engage with the adjacent end of the bar 39 rocking the same upon the pivot 39', thus forcing the bar 40 upwardly, whereby the upper end of the bar will engage with the adjacentinner end of the latch 52, thus rocking said latch upon its pivotal connection and consequently releasing the actuating member ot the valve whereby the ports 37 and 3S will register with the ports 33 and 32 respectively, thus permitting the intlowing oil to find its way into the cylinder block 27 and cylinder 25 to push the beam 14 forwardly whereby the lingers i9v may engage with the cakes 7 as havepreviously been described. Apparently then the beam 14 being pushed by the rod will oli' course carry the bar rinwardly during the movement of the beam so that the detent 59 of the sleeve 58 will engage with the rounded extremity of the valve operating member 54 Ytor returning the member to that position shown in full line in Figure 9 and against the action or the spring 61 so that when the beam 14 is substantially at the completion of its inward movement the ports 87 and 39 will again register with the ports 33 and 85 respectively to permit an exhaust of the oil to permit the return of the beam 14 for retractingl the linger. From a study ot Figure 8 it will be apparent that when the rod 40 has been moved upwardly for engagement with the latch 52 for releasing the operating member 54, the said rod 40 will continue upwardly and be 'forced outwardly and out of contact with the latch 52 since obviously the block 42 will interpose between the roller and the said rod 40 tor urging the same to that position shown in dotted lines in the ligure. rlhis of course will permit the latch 52 to return to its position upon the roller 50 by gravity so as to be in engageable position when the operating member 54 is moved Jfor engagement with the latch 'for contact'with the detent 59 upon the return of the beam 14 and rod 57 as is apparent.
lt will be seen thatthis apparatus is exceedingly simple in its construction, inexpensive to install, and thoroughly etlicient and reliable in use. The present embodiment of the invention, however, has Vbeen disclosed in considerable detail merely for the purpose of exemplification, since in actual practice it attains the features oi advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.
lt will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the appended claims. A device for extracting cakes from thev boxes of an oil press, comprising a vertically suspended beam adapted for'movement on a horizontal plane, means forv movably supporting said beam, a pluralityof ejector fingers projecting laterally from the-beam, there being one finger for each of the boxes of the oilpress, means associated with the beam for normally holding the fingers retracted out of the boxes, a rod attached to the beam, a cylinder, a conduit leading to the cylinder whereby oil from the press may be fedV to the cylinder for actuatingtheqrod thereby moving the beam toward or away from the press for moving the fingers on 'a horizontal plane into and voutof the boxes, a valve structure in said conduit, andmeans operatively connected with Vsaid vertical beam and arranged in the path or'movement of a part of the press for operating the valve to control the supply of oil to the cylinder.

A device forv extracting cakes from the boxes of an oil press, said means comprising a horizontally movable vertically 1 disposed beam, means for suspending said beam vertically, said means including a horizontally disposed rail, a hanger on the upper end of the beam,a roller in the hanger` ridable'on the rail, valve controlled fluid means for ac.` tuating said beam, and a plurality of fingers arranged in vertical spaced alinement projecting from one side of the beam, there being onel finger for each of the boxes of the oil press.

A device for extracting cakes from the boxes of an oil press, said means comprising a vertically movable beam, means for movably supporting said beam, lingers projecting from one side of the beam, there being onev linger for each box of the oil press, said fingers at their free ends terminating in Vdownwardly depending cake engaging terminals, a rod attached to the beam, a cylinder slidably accommodating said rod, a conduit leading to the cylinder whereby oil under pressure from the press may be fed to said cylinder for operating said rod, a valve arranged in said conduit, a latch member extending from said beam and having means thereon adapted for cooperation with an operating handle of the valve for moving said valve to an exhausting position upon return movement of the beam, said latch adapted to engage the operating handle of the Valve when the same is in exhausting position, and means for actuating the latch to permit release of the valve upon a return stroke of the oil press.

A device for extracting cakes from the boxes of an oil press, said means comprising a vertically movable beam, means for movably supporting said beam, fingers projecting from one side of the beam, there being one finger for each box of the oil press, said fingers at their free ends terminating in downwardly depending cake engaging terminals, a rod attached to the beam, a cylinder slidably accommodating said rod, a conduit leading to the cylinder whereby oil under pressure from the press may be fed to said cylinder for operating said rod, a valve arranged in said conduit, a latch member extending from said beam and having means thereon adapted for cooperation with an operating handle of the valve for moving said valve to an exhausting position upon return movement of the beam, said latch adapted to engage the operating handle of the valve when the same is in exhausting position, and means for actuating the latch to permit releaseof the valve upon a return stroke of the oil press, including means operatively associated with the oil press so that upon said return stroke of the oil press oil is forced into the cylinder for actuating the plunger.

A device for extracting cakes from the boxes of an oil press, comprising in combination a movable member, means for utilizing oil under pressure from the oil press for actuating said movable member, said means including a valve controlled conduit, latch means co-operable with the valve for moving the latter to an exhausting position upon movement of said movable member in one direction, and means controlled by the Inovel In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
