IMPROVEMENT IN HAND CORN-HUSKERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 180,157, dated July 25, 1876; application filed April 1, 1876.

To all whom it may concera:

Be it known that I, JAMES PETERS, of'Chicage, in the county of Cook and State of 11- linois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hand (Jorn Huskers; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which my invention relates to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, in which Figure l is view of right-hand glove, showing position of husker; Fig. 2, perspective View of husker detached from glove Fig. 3, cross-section of forked plate; Fig. 4, cross-section of front end of spring.

My invention relates to hand corn-huskers; and consists in a metal plate having a forked or notched end, and to which is secured a spring carrying on its outer end a projection fitted to enter the notch or fork in theend of the plate when pressed down.

- The operation of my invention is as follows: When a person desires to use the husker the hand is passed in between the curves, as represented in Fig. 1, and the cord 0 is secured around the second finger, or should ,a person prefer mittens the holes through which the cord passes could be placed farther apart, and the cord passed over the whole hand. The ear of corn to be husked is held in the opposite hand, and the points upon the forked end of the plate inserted in the husks at the top; the thumb then presses down the spring and causes the V-shaped projection upon the under side of the same, to pinch the" husks between the forks on the plate, and they are When the thumb is released from the spring it assumes its original position.

It will be observed that it requires but a few moments to attach my invention to any ordinary gloves or mittens, and that the same can be detached with little trouble, so that they can be used for other purposes.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

In a corn-husker, the plate B, having the notched or forked end a, and the spring B,

having projection on its outer end, substantially as and for the purpose specified and described.
