UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE SAMUEL MGKEE, OF LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent bio-179,937, dated July 18, 1876; application filed April 29, 1876.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SAMUEL MGKEE, of Louisville, in the county of J eiferson and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Water Cocks or Faucets, which invention or improvement is fully set forth in the following specification:
The following is a description of my improvement for Water cocks or faucets, refer ence being had to the drawing hereto annexed. It relates to a water cock or faucet provided with an elastic thimble surrounding the discharge-nozzle, and intended to be used on all water cocks or faucets placed in kitchen-sinks, bathtubs, and wash-basins of all kinds.
The object of the invention or improvement is to prevent all hard substances, and especially china, glass, and queens Ware, and crockery of all kinds, from being broken and the edges nicked when brought in contact with the ends of discharge-nozzles of the water cocks or faucets, and also to prevent scratches, cuts, or bruises to the skin of the body, hands, or limbs of persons while using the wash-basins, sinks, or bath-tubs. It is so arranged at the bottom that the thimble goes below the discharge-nozzle of the Water cock or faucet, piesenting at the bottom a circular or convex surface, and a ring-like enlargement, and will thus effectually accomplish the object sought.
The thimble is made of all sizes to suit the sizes of the Water cocks or faucets. It is put on by simply heating it with alcohol, or heating in any manner, then slipping it over the nozzle, Where it will remain firmly; or it may be made with a small metallic ring, and this ring fastened to the nozzle, witha screw cut on the inside of the metal and nozzle to match. If made with a screw attachment, the rubber thimble is fastened to the screw in the same manner as it would be placed on the dischargenozzle without it.
What I claim is 1. A water cock or faucet provided with an elastic thi m ble surrounding the discharge-nozzle, as and for the purposes specified.
2. The elastic thimble B, provided with a ring enlargement, O, in combination with the discharge-nozzle of a water cook or faucet, as and for the purposes specified.
