BUFFER FOR BEER-FAUCETS.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, PAUL F. 1V. ZABEL and PETER J. GLANz, citizens of the United States of America, residing at Hammond, in the county of Clatsop and State of Oregon, have invented new and useful Improvements in Buffers for Beer-Faucets, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to buffers for vbeer faucets, and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide means of simple construction for preventing beer glasses from breakage in holding the same up to the faucet to receive the beer.

Another object of the invention is to provide a rubber buffer which can be readily attached to and detached from a metal faucet connected to a beer barrel and provided with means whereby when a glass is held underneath the faucet it will not become broken, chipped or injured at the upper edge thereof.

These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,-

Figure l is a side elevation of a metal faucet having a rubber buffer connected thereto, said buffer being made in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the rubber buffer removed from the faucet.

Referring to the drawing, the numeral l designates a metal faucet of usual construction provided with a valve and handle 2 for operating the same. Faucets of this character are usually provided with a depending valve casing 3 and a curved outlet nozzle 4.. Connected to the faucet is a buffer made in accordance with this invention, said buifer having a cup 5 adapted to t over the projecting valve casing 3 of the faucet and a tube 6 adapted to surround the nozzle 4f. The tube or sleeve 6 is formed with a bead 6, which serves as a stop to limit the upward movement of the glass against the noz-4 zle, and the cup 5 is formed with a bead 5 which is adapted to perform a similar function in limiting the upward movement of a glass against the valve seat. The cup 5 and the tube 6 are connected by a curved buffer portion 7 which incloses the lower curved portion of the faucet. The buffer portion 7 is connected by a strap 8 which passes over the top of the nozzle i for holding the Specification of Letters Patent.

buffer in place on the faucet. When in proper position a glass presented to the faucet for receiving beer or other liquid from the discharge nozzle is held up against the curved portion 9 of the buffer and is thus prevented from being chipped or broken by contact with the metal faucet.

The connection of the nozzle tube or sleeve 6 with the nozzle and the connection of the valve seat cup 5 with the valve seat does not depend upon the gripping action of these portions on the faucet as they are supported in their proper positions by the strap 8.

From the foregoing it will be obvious that a buffer made in accordance with. our invention can be manufactured at low cost, can be quickly applied to or removed from the faucet and will prevent the chipping or breaking of glasses in drawing beer or other liquid from a metal faucet. Slight variations in form and construction may be resorted to in order to conform to faucets of different contours without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as covered by the claim.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is

An article of manufacture comprising a beer faucet buffer molded out of resilient rubber to provide an arched portion U- shaped in cross section and adapted to engage the under-side of a beer faucet and formed with an upstanding integral strap adapted to engage the upper side of a beer faucet and further provided with a valve seat cup and a nozzle inclosing ring integral therewith, said arched portion being adapted to support the valve seat cup and the nozzle inclosing ring in operative positions, the upper portion of the valve seat cup being formed with a reinforcing bead constituting a stop and the upper portion of the nozzle inclosing ring being formed with a reinforcing bead constituting a stop, whereby the upward movement of a drinking glass will be limited.
