UNITED} STATES PATENT OFFICE.

IMPROVEMENT IN SILK-CLEANING IMPLEMENTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 179,813, dated July 11, 1876; application filed March 25,1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that DENNIS J. OOoNNoR, of Paterson, county of Passaic, and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Silk Cleaner and Duster, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 represents one form of my improved implement. Fig. 2 represents another form of Fig. 3 is an end view of the same. Fig.4 is a detail section ofthe same, taken through the line :20 a, Fig. 1.
The invention relates to an improved duster and cleaner for silk fabrics-more particularly for silk dresses and other articles of wearing-apparel. lt consists of aflexible piece of fabric, having a pile-surface, and provided with side loops, as hereinafter described'and claimed;
Referring to the drawing, A indicates the face or pile-surface of the duster; B, the hack, and D the finger-loops, attached to the sides or edges thereof. In some cases I prefer to insert a piece or body, (J, of paper, cloth, or leather, between the face A and back B of the (luster. The pile-surface is similar to that of a Wilton carpet, the nap being formed by rows of tufts, which are cut to a uniform length.
The dust enters the spaces between these rows as fast as removed from the fabric being cleaned.
It is indispensable that the duster shall be flexible, so that it may be doubled, thus flaring the piled rows for .the easy escape of sand, or folded to adapt it to enter the gathers, plaits, or folds of the dress, and effectually remove the dust. I
The finger-loops D adapt the duster to be held stretched out fiat, or drawn tightly over the closed middle fingers of the hand. The effect of the use ,of the device is not only to remove the dust, sand, or other foreign substance, bnt to impart a line gloss to the silk, I
