IMPROVEMENT lN SATCHELS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 179,745, dated July 11, 1876; application filed February 5, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Mrs. E. VALE BLAKE, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Satchel, of which the following is a specification:
The invention is an improvement .in the class of satchelsor' traveling-bags provided with folding flaps. The improvement relates to the construction of the satchel and connection of lock and hand strap therewith, as hereinafter described.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the satchel adjusted for a hand-bag. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of it in the larger form.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The ends A are constructed of suitable flexible material, to fold or double inward above the bottom portion 0, as shown at B, in which portion they are secured by the bottom D and strap E, or other fastenings. The sides and ends are constructed 'with flap-pieces I, -ot' leather or other suitable material, contrived to button'together, as in Fig. 2, for the large bag, and to fold down inside to close the bag up in the small form represented in Fig. 1.
The side and end portions between the bottom 0 and the top pieces F may be made of elastic material to increase the capacity of the bag by stretching.
'The bottom part 0 is made lower-at the ends than the sides to enable the fold B to extend down to or nearly to the bottom.
The satchel is provided with a hand-strap is made to slide, to provide for variation in the size of the satchel, as when filled, partly filled, or empty. g
'What I claim is- The satchel having the flexible ends A, the
folding top portion, composed of flaps F, and the strap attachment Gr G, provided with sliding loop and hasp, and the lock H, all constructed and arranged as shown and described.
