Description

17, Q D DYER AUTOMOBILE CARD CASE Filed Sept. 8, 1950 Dalen. yel
IVil.unnnllnlllllnnlul111111111111.1111111 'n INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Mar. 17, 1931 me raras PAT OFFICE AUTOMOBILE CARD CASE Application filed September rllhis invention relates to a case for holding a registration card or the like to a part of a motor vehicle, the general object of the invention being to provide the case with a base part which is attached to a part of the vehicle and a part hinged to the cover and having a transparent member, with means for holding a registration card or the like against the inner face of the member, whereby the card is visible and is held in the case so that it is protected from dirt, dust, moisture and the like.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
in describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a front view of the device.
Figure 2 is a section on line 22 of F igure l.
Figure 3 is a sectional detail view showing the latch means for holding the cover in 30 closed position.
Figure 4l is a section on line le- 4 of F igure 3.
In these views, the numeral 1 indicates the base of the device which is adapted to be connected with a part of the vehicle by the bolts 2, this base having the side flanges 3 so that its maj or portion will be spaced from the part to which it is attached. The cover 4l is hinged to the base, as shown at 5, and said cover part is preferably composed of side and end portions which are of substantially v shape in cross section, with the outer portions 6 adapted to rest against portions of the base 1 so as to form a tight oint when the cover is closed. lllhe cover carries a transparent member 7 and the registration card 8 rests against the inner face of the transparent member and said member and the card are removably held in place by the clips 9 which are pivoted to the cover portion. Leaf 8, 1930. Serial No. 480,577.
springs 10 are fastened to the base 1 and press against the card when the cover is closed so as to hold the card against the transparent member and said member against the inner flanges of the cover 4.
A spring strip 11 is fastened to a vertical wall of the base at that side which is opposite the hinge and a depending spring strip 12 is fastened to the cover and is engaged by a projection 11 on the strip 11 when the cover is closed so that these parts 11 and 12 form latch means for the cover. The cover is formed with a keyhole 13 so that a key 14 can be passed therethrough and when turned, will engage the strip 11 so as to push it out of engagement with the strip 12, thus permitting the cover to be opened.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a casing having a hinge-d cover formed with a transparent portion so that a registration card or the like will be visible through the transparent member when placed in the device. By locking the cover in closed position, the registration card cannot be stolen without damage to the device and the card is kept in good condition by the device.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
lt is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is z*- A device of the class described comprising a base portion, a cover portion hingedly connected therewith, said portion having an opening therein, a transparent member covering the opening, a card resting against the inner face of the transparent member, pivoted clips for-holding the card and transparent member in place, springs carried by the base portion and pressing against the card and means for locking the cover in closed position.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
DOLEN D. DYER.
