IMPROVEMENT IN HOOKS FOR WEB-DRAWING.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 179,703, dated July 11, 1876; application filed December 16, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MARY S. JORDAN, of Bristol, in the county of Grafton, State of New Hampshire, have invented an Improved Hook for Web Drawing, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.
My invention consists in providing a hook having a slot in the end thereof, substantially in the form shown in the drawing at a, with a delicate spring inserted in the slot, in the manner shown at s, which will easily permit a thread to slip into the slot, and will prevent it from slipping out while other threads are being taken to the full capacity of the hook.
My hook is an improvement on the old form in common use, because with it the operator, in drawing in webs for four or six shaded harnesses, or for harnesses having any number of shades, may catch the second, third, fourth,
and any number of threads, to the full capacity of the hook, before throwingout the hand to clear the hook of threads. Also, it enables the operator to guard against mistakes, because, commencing on the back, the threads are retained in the book, so that they can be traced to their respective harnesses until the front harness is reached, when, by a motion of the hand, similar to the motion made in using the old form of hook, my hook is cleared ot'threads and ready to repeat the operation.
I claim- A hook for drawing in webs, provided with a slot for retaining threads, as shown at a, and with the spring .9, combined and adjusted as and for the purposes described.
