My invention relates to shade holding devices.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide a shade holding device which can be easily manipulated, which will securely hold the shade, and which will allow for slight differences in the diameter of the neck of the shade. Further objects will appear from the description and claims.
In the drawings in which an embodiment of my invention is shown:
Figure 1 is a side elevation showing my im proved shade holder used in connection with a metal shade and glass diffusing bowl;
Fig. 2 is a bottom view of the shade holder showing the parts in holding position;
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 showing the parts in releasing position; and
Fig. 4 is a side elevational view of the shade holder.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the construction sho'wn comprises a lamp socket 1, a glass diffusing bowl 2, and a wire shade clamping member 3 mounted on the metal shade 4 and serving to clamp the neck 5 of the glass diftusing bowl 2 to hold it in position.
The wire clamping member 3 may be of springy material having a plurality of loop portions 6 extending through slots or openings in the annular portion 7 of the metal shade 4. The ends 8 of the wire clamping member 3 also extend through an opening or slot 9 in the annular portion of the shade 4, and may be drawn toward each other by means of a toggle arrangement. This togglearrangement comprises a pair of links 10 and 11 pivotally connected together'at 12 and pivotally connected to the ends of the clamping wire respectively at 13 and 14. To secure the diffusing bowl in position, the toggle is moved to the position shown in Fig. 3, and the bowl is placed in position so that when the toggle is moved to the clamping and looking position shown in Fig. 2, the portions 15 of the wire gripping member 3 will snugly embrace the neck 5 of the bowl 2 and hold it in the proper position. The springy nature of the wire permits the loop portions 6 and bent ends 8 to yield somewhat when thetoggle is moved to locking position to allow for slight variations in the size of the neck of the bowl. When the toggleis moved to locklng position, as shown in Fig. 2, the pivotal point of connection 12 between the toggles moves past the dead center line of the pivotal points 13'and 14 so that the toggle is held in locked position bythe tension of link 10.
While I have shown but one embodiment of my invention, it is obvious thatit may be embodied in other forms covered and defined in theappended claims.

1. A shade holder construction comprising an annular member, a bent wire clamping member for gripping the neck of a shade lying mainly within said annular member, said annular; member having circumferentially spaced openings therein and said wire clamping member having its endsextending outwardly, through one ofsaid openings and having loop portions extending outwardly through other of said openings for positioning said wire clamping member, and means for drawing the ends of said clamping member toward each other, said loop portions extending outwardly and toward the near end of the, wire whereby when the ends of the clamping member are drawn toward each other there isno possibility of the loop portions becoming disengaged from their respective openings. c
2. A-shadeholder construction comprising an annular member, a bent wire annular clamping member for gripping the neck of a shade lying mainly within said first men: tionedannular member, said first annular member having circumferentially spaced openings therein and said wire clamping member havingits ends extending outward-v lythrough one of said openings and having loop portions extending outwardly through other of said openings for positioning said wire clamping member, and means for drawing the ends of said clamping member toward each other, said bent wire annular clamping member having portions of substantially less curvature than the remainder of the bent wire so as to form a concave angle whereby a portion of its extent is out of contact with the neck of the shade and when in clamping position said portions of less curvature will tend to accommodate their shape to that of necks of different diameters.

A shade holder construction comprising an annular member, a bent wire clamping member for gripping the neck of a shade lying mainly within said annular member, said annular member having circumterentially spaced openings therein and said wire clamping member having its ends extending outwardly through one of said openings and having loop portions extending outwardly through other of said openings for positioning said wire clamping member, and means for drawing the ends of said clamping member toward each other, said means comprising two links pivotally connected together, one
link being pivotally connected with one end of the wire and the other link being pivotally connected with the other end of the wire, so that when said clamping means is operated the clamping ,endsof the wire are moved circumferentially towardseach other on substantially the same center.
4; A shade holder construction comprising an annular member, a bent wire annular clamping member for gripping the neck of a .shade lyingmainly within said first mentioned annular member, said first annular member having circumferentially spaced openings therein and said bent wire member having its ends extending outwardly through one of said openings and having loop portions extending outwardly through other of saidopenings and toward the near ends of the wire so. as to prevent the loop portions becoming disengaged from their respective openings when the ends of said wire are drawn towards each other, and clamping meansfor drawing the ends of the wires toward each other comprising two links pivotally connected together, one link being pivotally connected with one end of the wire and the other link being pivotally connected with the other .end of the wire, so that when said clamping means is operated the clamping ends of the wire are moved circumferentially towards each other on substantially the same center.
5. A shade holder construction comprising an annular member, a bent wlre annular clamping member for gripping the neck of a shade lying mainly within said first mentioned annular member, and means for drawing the ends of said clamping .wire together, said first annular member having circumferentially spaced openings therein and said bent wire member having its ends extending outwardly through one of said openings and having loop portions extending outwardly through other of said openings and toward the nearend of the bent wire so as to prevent the loop portions becoming disengaged from their respective openings when the ends of ARTHUR P.
