Description

March 10, 1931. F. HIMMEL ETAL' 1,795,429
STORE FRONT CONSTRUCTION Filed May 24,. 1929 Patented Mar. 10, 1931 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE FRED HIIMMEL AND ISIDORE HIMMEL, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNORS TO THE HIMMEL BROTHERS 00., OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT, A. CORPORATION STORE-FRONT CONSTRUCTION Application filed May 24, 1929. Serial No. 365,607.
This invention relates to improvement in store-front construction. Store-front construction-strips are generally provided with openings for the escape of water which en- 5 ters between the strips through holes formed in the upper part of the inner strip, but in dry windy weather more or less dust enters these openings and blows into the show-window, injuring or marring the appearance of 1 goods in the window, especially if they be of white or lightly-tinted fabrics.
The object of this invention is to provide baffles for these openings by which the currents of air will be broken up so as not to 15 drive into the inside of the window and avoid the use of slides or other means in the inner strip, and the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a section of store-front construction embodying our invention;
Fig. 2 is a front view of a section of the outer strip and Fig. 3 is a sectional View on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
In carrying out our invention, we employ an inner strip 5 and an outer strip 6 formed 30 of sheet metal and of any approved construction, and between the edges of which a sheet of glass 7 is mounted. The outer strip 6 is formed along its lower edge with pairs of openings 8 and 9 and these openings are formed by striking the metal inward from the adjacent edges of the openingsforming baflies 10 and 11 projecting in opposite directions. The flange 12 of the inner strip 5 is also formed with corresponding openings above described, and through which moisture on the inside of the glass may escape.
13 and 14: formed with baflies 15 and 16, as
the inner strip provide additional protection. We claim: Inner and outer strips for store-front construction, each strip formed with a series of openings arranged in pairs and integral baffies extending inward from each opening, the baffles of each pair of openings extending inward in opposite directions.
In testimony whereof, we have signed this specification.
FRED HIMMEL. ISIDORE HIMMEL.
