IMPROVEMENT IN BELL-RINGING APPARATUS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 179,524, dated July 4, 1876; application filed May 22 To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Jnuns W. OoF-FEY, of Ellettsville, Monroe county, Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Bellltinging Apparatus, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists of a double bell-hammer, suspended on an axis over the hell, with a hammer on each of the two sides, so that when one is pulled down to strike the bell the other rises, meparatory to striking its blow;
and each is balanced by the other, so that but very little power is required for operating it.
I igure l is a side elevation of a bell provided with my improved bell-ringing apparatus, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation taken in a plane at right angles to that of Fig. 1.

A is the bell; B, the hammers; O, the axis on which they are mounted; D, a lever extending upward from the axis a suitable height for affording leverage to work the hammers by the ropes E; F, rods projecting from the upper end of the lever for attaching the ropes to it, and for the application of adjustable cou n terbalance weights G, by which to adjust the as new and desire to secure by Letters latent- 1. The double bell-hammer B, pivoted over the bell, and arranged to strike it alternately on opposite sides, substantially as specified.
2. The lever D, rods F, ropes E, and guidepulleys M, combined with the double bellhainnler B, substantially as specified.
