The present invention is directed to improvements in tourists cabinets.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a device of-this character so cong structed that it can be detachably attached to the running board of an automobile, in order that it can be conveniently removed and carried to any location. Another object of the invention is to pIO- 1o vide a device of this kind so constructed as to provide compartments in which articles of food, as well as cooking utensils and avacuum jug or the like can'be compactly stored therein. Y le Another object of theinvention is to provide a cabinet of this nature constructed in such manner that it can be secured to the running board of an automobile without interfering with the opening and closing of the 2o door of the vehicle. y
With these and other objects in View, this invention resides in thenovel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a side elevation of the cabinet showing the sameV in place.
VFigure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view 3o therethrough.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a sectional view on line 4-4 of Figure 2. v
Figure 5 is a sectional view on line 5--5 of Figure 1. p i v Figure 6 is a sectional view on line 6-6 of Figure 2.
Figure 7 is a fragmentary top plan view.
Referring to the drawings 1` designates a cabinet which consists of compartments 2 and 3, the former has a `fiat bottom 4.- which rests upon the running board 5, while the bottom 5 of the latter, which is a continuation of the 7"* bottom 4, is curved to conform to the curvature of the fender 6. Y The compartment 2 has -connected thereto by hinges 7 a cover 8, a
similarly connected cover 9 being provided for the compartment 3. The respective covers can belocked in any appropriate manner.
serving to contain bottles of milk, water,
The compartment 2 is relatively large in order to receive sandwiches, fruit, containers for various articles oflprepared food and other edibles.
Thecompartment 3 has fixed therein a Vertical partition l() which has its lower edge resting upon a horizontal partition 11, said partition forming in conjunction with the wall l2, a compartment 13, said compartment 60 drinking glasses or any other articles necessary to complete the outt.
The partition 11 is of `such width that a space 14 isprovided between its forward edge and front wall 15. The partition is spaced 65 from the wall 15 and fixed to the sides 16-16 are strips 17-17 the strips and the partition 11 defining the compartment 18, and since the strips are comparatively narrow a frying pan or the like canbe readily placed in this compartment without interfering with the strips.
A vacuum jug can be placed in the compartment 3 and will rest upon the strips 17- 17. The partition 10 is of such height that a tray 19 can be conveniently placed in the `upper end of the compartment 3 `and will rest upon the upper edge of said partition, the cover 9 closing the tray. In this tray may be placed cups, plates, knives, forks and salt and pepper containers.
` The bottom 4 has secured thereto a pair of plates 20 through which are passed clamping bolts 21 to aid in securing the cabinet to the running board.
The wall 15 has bolted thereto a plate 22, said plate having a flange 23 carried thereby in which is engaged a clamping bolt 24, said bolt being extended for engagement in the adjacent side sill 25 of the vehicle. This bolt will obviously maintain the forward side of the cabinet securely upon the running board.
From the foregoing, it is thought that the construction, operation and many advantages of the herein described invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art, without further description, and it will be understood that various changes in the size, shape, and proportion and minor details of construction, may be resorted to without departing from g.
