HAIR-CURLING JDEvIoE 7 Application filed June 29, 1929, Serial No. 374,833, and. in Great Britain January 25, 1929.
This invention relates to a simple device for curling hair its object being to provide an improved construction applicable readily to any type of heating appliance commonly 5 in use in hair dressing establishments, which can be cheaply manufactured and which can be sold as a separate entity quite apart from the heating medium which may be electric heaters, gas heaters or otherwise.
According to the present invention ahair curling device is provided which comprises an outer tube open at both ends adapted to be closed at one endby means of a plug or stop per having a perforation therein for the escape of steam and a constriction or groove at the other end upon which fits a flexible tubular member and within said outertube is adapted to removably fit a perforated inner tube which is provided with an abutment adapted to contact with the interior of the outer tube, said inner tube being covered with a layer or layers of heat resisting absorbent material which is permanently secured to said inner tube. V
In order that the invention may be fully understood and readily carried into effect by those skilled in the art to which it appertains, I will now proceed to describe the same fully with reference to the accompanying illustration, in which r Figure 1 is a diagrammatic fragmentary view of a device constructed according to the present invention and Figure 2 is an end view thereof.
with its perforations B and covering C of suitable absorbent non-burning material such as asbestos. through a larger outer tube D which is reduced at E and takes around a rim, ridge or the like F serving as an abutment on the inner tube A. Both tubes are open at A and other endA This end A receives a tube or the like of rubber H or other appropriate material. In using the apparatus, a strand of hair to be curled is Wound round a suitable bar or the like and inserted through the end A of the inner tube, this tube with its covering 0 operation.
In this drawing A represents the inner tube This inner tube A ispushed of absorbent material having previously been immersed in a liquid solution of appropriate nature for effecting or aiding in the curling The absorbent material absorbs a certain amount of the said liquid. The rubber tube H or the like is tied tightly round the end of the hair near the scalp so that when the outer tube is placed within an appropriate heating chamber thereby causing the liquid absorbed by the material C to boil and be emitted in the form of steam, such steam cannot be driven inadvertently on to the scalp and cause a mishap. I
The steam formed in this manner escapes through the apertures in the inner tube A and passes out through the open'ends A and D of the two tubes. V v V The open ends of the tubes A and D may have a stopper K with a perforation therein for the exit of the steam.
I claim:
1. A hair curling device comprising an outer tube open at both ends, a stopper adapted for closing one end of said tube, a perforation in said stopper, a constriction or groove at the other end of said outer tube, a rubber tubular member adapted to fit onto said constriction, a removable perforated innertube adapted to'fit within said outer tube and a layer of heat resisting absorbent material permanently secured to the exterior of said inner tube. o
2. Ina hair curling device as claimed in claim 1 an internally projecting annular proend of said rubber tube being tied closely D while the inner tube Ais also open its} around the hair near the scalp after the strand to be curled has been wound on an appropriate
