lMPROVEMENT IN STOVE-LEG FASTENERS.

Speeiteation forming part of Letters Patent No. 179,248, dated June 27, 1876; application tiled June '7, 1876.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN ZIEGLER, of Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fastening Devices for Stove-Legs; and I do hereby declare the fol lowing to be a full, clear, and exact description ot' the same.

The object. ot' this invention is to provide a fastening for stove-legs, which shall be simple and efficient, both preventing the leg from dropping and from being pushed out of place.

Myiinprovement consists in forming upon the under portion of the stove a beveled bracket, over which a rosette, pivoted to the leg, is turned to cover the bracket with a correspondingly-beveled detent,which rlnly locks the leg to the stove, all as will be herewith set forth.`

To enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I would thus proceed to describe it, referring to the accolnpanyin g drawings, in which- Figure l is a front elevation ot' my improved leg-fastening device, and Fig. 2 a central section, in side elevation, of Fig. l.

Corresponding letters of reference indicate like parts in all of the figures.

A represents the bottom corner ofany stove, the lower edge of which is cut so as to form a beveled bracket, b, Fig. 2, with its top curved and with the bevel inclining inward. The

under side of the bottom A is provided with the ordinary dovetailed or beveled brackets c, between which the horizontal portion ot' the leg B tits. These ribs or brackets are usually .the only devices for holding the leg in position, and experience has shown their inefficiency.

I am aware that a catch turning upon a bolt on the leg, and fastening` behind a downward-projecting rim ot' the stove bottom, has been used to prevent the legs from being pushed out ot' place. But when the stove is raised or tilted these devices are very inefticient to prevent the legs from dropping ott'. Upon my stove-leg l pivot, by a bolt, d, t-he rosette j', which has at its top a beveled detent, g, Fig. 2, which, when the leg is in place, iits snugly over the bracket b, and thus not only prevents the leg from being knocked oii by a blow, but a-lso prevents its dropping out when the stove is tilted purposely or by acci' dent.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claiin as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

rlhe stove-bottom A, having the beveled brackets b and c, in combination with a stoveleg, B, to which is pivoted a rosette or catch,

f, whose top is formed into a detent, g, to it over and clasp the bracket b, to prevent the detachment ot' the leg, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
