Accordingly, the structural elements entering into the appliance as to their shapes, forms, locations, relation to other members, etc., are such that the boiler or heater may be produced or manufactured with the least amount of material, labor and expenditure of funds.
The manner in which such aims or purposes and others are attained may be understood by those skilled in this art from a consideration of a. preferred embodiment of the invention illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a lpart of this specification, and throughout the views of which likel reference numerals have been employed to designate the same parts.

Referring to the severalA figures of the drawings, it will be observed that the novel and improved sheet-metal boiler or heater 'p structure comprises a front, upright, metal plate 11 having a substantially semi-circular, top edge and parallel,v vertical edges, its lower, horizontal margin being provided with an inturned flange 12 for the greater portion of its ,length corresponding to the widthQofv the fire-box, the boiler including also a rearwall plate 13 of llike contour with a similar,
internal flange 14 along its bottom edge.

The fire-box or fuel-combustion chamber has a front Wall plate 17 with an arched, top edge and upright, parallel edges, the plate being of less width than the corresponding dimension of the boiler to provide for side water-legs in the latter with proper circulation therein.
A door opening 18 is provided inthe outer plate 11 and a corresponding, registering aperture 19 is present in the inner plate 17 the space between the two plates affording a front water-leg 23 sealed around the doorway by a ring composed of a bent plate 22 and its companion straight plate 21, both located between the outer and inner plates 11 and 17 and 'welded thereto and to one another. f
0f course, such doorway is supplied with the customary lire-door, but this has not been shown.
A water-leg 24 is present at the back of the ire-box20 and is formed between the outer, wall plate 13 and an inner, rectangular plate 25 spaced therefrom and having along its top border an outturned flange 26 welded to the inner surface of member 13, the flange 14 of the latter being welded to plate 25 along its bottom margin.
The crown-sheet or inner wall of the firebox or main combustion-chamber reaches from the inner face of element 17 to the inner surface of member 25 having its edges welded to each of these, such crown-sheet being bent to form a curved or arched crown-` sheet proper 27 and parallel, vertical sidewalls 28,28, the flanges 16, 16 of plate 15 10e-A lDIS Such plate 27, 28, 28 at its rear end is cut away aiongg,1 the lines 29, 3l to provide a top aperture oit substantial size to aidord communication with an upper, suplemental combustion-chamber 30 tormed y a duea sheet 32 whose lower, curved edge conforms to, overlies, and is welded to the outer surface oit the crown- sheet 27, 28, 28 and by a sheet having a wide, horizontal top 33, parallel, wide, side-walls 34., 34, and narrower, downIm wardly-extending, side- wall sections 35, 35.

Sections 35, 35 are ot a width to overlap the upright edges of plate 25 to which they are welded and sections 3e, 34C continue down far enough to overlap the ends of flange 26 to which they are welded,

The various parts are strengthened in the customaryrnanner by stays which are shown and the boiler is equipped with other ordinary ttings also illustrated, but none oit which require `lurtlier mention.,
The manner in which the members are shaped and combined to allow ease eeen-l oiny in welding1 should be observed and tention is also directed to the tact that the y opening or doorway 36 extends through only trein the `substance oi the invenu tion and without the sacrifice of any of its salient advantages.
