" MOUNTING DEVICE Eon PICTURES Filedllarch so. 1928 fieoryefliwlz' Patented Feb. 3, 1931 PATENT OFFEE GEORGE I. LARTZ, 0F MORTON GROVE, ILLINOIS MOUNTING DEVICE FOR PICTURES Application filed March 30, 1928. Serial No. 265,914.
This invention relates to improvements in mounting devices for cards, photographs, pictures and the like, and one of the objects of the invention is to provide an improved mounting device of this character formed from a single piece of material, preferably ready gummed, so shaped that in folding the same it becomes a pocket adapted to be secured to any surface, and into which pocket the corner of a card or picture is adapted to be inserted, and by means of which the card or picture will be lightly but firmly held in position.
A further object is to provide an improved mounting pocket of this character, portions of which may be embossed as desired for ornamentation and which may as Well be printed in colors or otherwise artistically decorated to present a pleasing appearance To the attainment of these ends and the accomplishment of other new and useful ob jects as will appear, the invention consists in the features of novelty in substantially the construction, combination and arrangement of the several parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed and shown in the accompanying drawing illustrating this invention, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a mounting device of this character constructed in accordance with the principles of this invention, showing the same applied to a mount-- ing surface and indicating in dotted lines one corner of a card or picture inserted therein.
Figure 2 is a top plan View of the blank from which the device shown in Figure 1 is formed.
Figure 3 is a view of the blank partially folded.
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the blank completely folded.
Figure 5 isa top plan View of a blank for another form of pocket.
Figure 6 is a view showing the blank of Figure 5 partially folded.
Figure 7 is a top plan View of the completely folded blank.
Referring more particularly to the drawing and to the form of the invention shown in Figures 1 to 4, the blank consists essentially The portions 1112 (see Figure 2) are respectively folded back upon the body portion 10 along thelines 15 and 16 as shown more clearly in Figure 3, in the inverted form and then the portions 11-12 are bent back upon themselves respectively along the lines 17- 18, to form portions 19 and 20 that are adapted to be secured to a mounting surface 21. When thus folded the portion 10 will constitute the front wall of the pocket while the portions formed respectively between the lines or edges 15 17 and 1618 constitute the rear wallfof the pocket. This rear wall extends preferably for a considerable distance beyond the top edge 13 of the front wall of the pocket and theedges 17 and 18 terminat-e short of each other or in close proximity thereto as shown in Figure 4.
By providing a rear wall to the pocket which is divided it will be manifest that the rear wall may. be slightly separated so as to compensate varying sizes of card corners to be inserted nto the pocket.
' Obviously the front face of the front wall of the pocket may be embossed or suitably ornamented.
In the form, of the invention shown in :Figure 5, the body 22 is folded alongv the lines 232 4; to produceia front wall 25 for the pocket, the upper edgeof this wall being suitably shaped as at 26. The portions 27 of the body beyond the folded edges 23-24 constitute the back wall of the pocket and the extremities 28 of the portions 27 are folded along the lines 29 back upon the portions 27 so that the gummed surfaces of the portions 28 will be presented to the mounting surface 21 to be secured thereto. The edges 30 of the portions 27 will be disposed in close proximity to each other to form a divided rear wall for the pocket and the portions 27 may project for any desired distance beyond the top edge 26 of the front wall 25.
While the preferred forms of the invention have been herein shown and described, it is to be understood that various changes may be made in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts within the scope of the claims, without departing from the spirit of this in vention.
What is claimed as new is 1. A mounting device of the character described comprising a body formed from a single piece of material comparatively long with relation to its width and having one gummed face, portions of the body on opposite sides of the longitudinal center being folded towards each other and back upon the same face of the body to provide a pocket, the bottom wall of the pocket extending for a considerable distance beyond the inner edge of the opposite side of the pocket, the said extended portions being folded back upon themselves and away from each other to form flaps presenting their gummed faces to'a mounting surface and with the edges of the blank formed by the last recited fold in close proximity to each other.
2. A mounting device of the character described comprising a. body formed from a single piece of material comparatively long with relation to its width and having one 'ummed face, the ends of the material being folded back upon the same face of the body to bring the gummed portions of said face in proximity and to provide a pocket, the bottom wall of the pocket extending for a considerable distance beyond the inner edge of the opposite wall of the pocket, the adjacent edges of the said folded back portions being disposed in close proximity to and being substantially parallel with each other and intersecting the pocket transversely of the body portion the extremities of said folded portions being bent back upon themselves and against the same face of the pocket to present the gummed surfaces of the said extremities to a mounting surface.
3. A mounting device of the character described comprising a body formed from a single piece of material comparatively long with relation to its width, portions of the material on opposite sides of a longitudinal central point being bent back upon the body transversely thereof and towards said central point to form a pocket the bottom wall of which extends beyond the inner edge of the front wall, portions of the extended wall being bent back upon themselves and against the same face of the pocket wall to provide anchoring flaps disposed behind the rear wall of the pocket.
4. A mounting device of the character described comprising a body formed from a single piece of material comparatively long with relation to its width, portions of the material on opposite sides of a longitudinal central point being bent back upon the same surface of the body and towards said central point to form a pocket, the bottom wall of which extends beyond the inner edge of the front Wall, the proximate edges of the portions forming the bottom wall of the pocket being disposed in proximity to each other to provide a divided wall intermediate the ends of the pocket, portions of the extended wall being bent back upon themselves and againstthe same face of the pocket wall to provide anchoring flaps disposed behind the bottom wall of the pocket.
5. A mounting device of the character described comprising .a body formed from a single piece of material comparatively long with relation to its width, portions of the body on opposite sides of the longitudinal center being folded towards each other and back upon the same surface of the body to provide a pocket, the bottom wall of the pocket extending for a considerable distance beyond the inner edge of the opposite wall of the pocket, the said extended portions being folded back upon themselves and against the same face of the pocket wall and away from each other to form flaps presenting their gummed faces to a. mounting surface.
In testimony whereof I have slgned In name to this specification, on this 24th day of March, A. D. 1928.
