MICHAEL SOHLESSMAN, OF COLUMBIA CITY, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHOVEL-PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 179,065, dated June 20, 1876; application filed March 11, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MICHAEL SGHLESSMAN, of Columbia City, in the county of Whitley, and in the State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shovel-Flows; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction an'd'arrangement of a shovelplow, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
' In the annexed drawing, Figure l is a perspective view of my shovel-plow. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the rear portion thereof.
A represents the plow-beam, provided with handles B B. U is the plow-standard with shovel plow D secured thereto. The standard O is held to and against the rear end of the beam A by means of a flat clevis, G, as shown, that portion of the standard around which said clevis passes being made round and the end of the beam concave.
In the upper end of the standard 0 is pivoted an arm or latch, 12, which is to rest in a notched cross-bar, d, on the top of the beam,
and thus hold the standard and shovel in any position. The shovel can thus be turned to either side and adjusted so as to hill up most thoroughly either corn, potatoes, or anything planted in rows. In front of the shovel is a colter, E, fastened in a mortise in the beam by a Wedge, h. The standard is connected to the beam by links c.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is I MICHAEL SOHLESSMAN.
