7 IMPROVEMENT in RIATTAN VENEERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. [78,949, dated June 20,1876; application filed February 24, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be .it known that I, SULLIVAN H. PENLEY, of Brooklyn, in the county of-Kings and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Rattan Veneers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is aperspective of my invention.
My invention consists of a veneer formed of rattan pith or reeds, attached by sizing, glue, or equivalent adhesive material, to a fibrous or textile backing.
In the accompanying drawing, A designates strips or lengths of rattan reed or pith, of uniform thickness, laid side by side, in parallel lines, upon a backing, B, of tough paper, bin-laps, or equivalent fibrous or textile material.. The pieces A are made fast to the backing B by glue, sizing, or other adhesive material, their outer or exposed surface being als) treated to a coat of the same material, thus causing the pieces to adhere to one an other aswell as to the backing.
This article may be employed for the purposes for which veneers are ordinarily used,
