UNITEB- STATES PATENT OFFICEo4 REUBEN L. TAYLOR, OF MANCHESTER., IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN WIRE-SPLICING TOOLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N o. 178,884, dated J unel 20, 1876; application tiled Aprii 13, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, REUBEN LINCOLN TAY- LCR, oi Manchester, Delaware county, State 'is a plan, and Fig. 2 a side elevation, of my invention.
In these drawings, A is-a bar of iron or steel, made in the form shown, or in such The thickness of the other part, forming a recess, B, with a shoulder at O, against which recess and shoulder the wire lies when being spliced. The shoulder C extends but part way across the recess B, which recess extends to the shoulder D, against which shoulder the wire lies as itis being coiled, with the wrench around the straight Wire to Which it is being The hole E is made large enough for the wire to slip freely through it as it is wound around the wire being spliced.
I make a curved depression, H, opposite the shoulder O and hole E in the recess B, for the Wire to lie in as it is coiled around the straight w1re.
v To use my invention the wires to be spliced are laid parallel, close together, and griped by a hand-vise or a pair of pinchers to hold them rmly with one hand, when the ends are turned ori' to aboutaright angle to the parallel wires with the other hand, when the hole in the wrench is put over one of the ends turned ofi', and brought down to bring the parallel or straight wire against the shoulder O, when the wrench is moved, so as to Wind the end bent oli' at a'right angle around the parallel wire. -v
When this is done the Wrench is put over the other end bent oft' at a right angle, and it is wound in the same manner, and the splice is complete.
What I claim as my invention is- 1.7The above-describedV tool for splicing wire, having an apertured recess, B, with shoulders C and D, as and for the purpose dey scribed.
2. The combination of the apertured recess B, having shoulders C and D, Withthe recess H, as and for the purpose set forth.
NEUBEN LINCOLN TAYLOR.
