This. invention relates to a helmet for aviators, the general object of the invention bein'g'to so form the helmet and its fastening means that the edges of the helmet will fit snugly against the forehead, the sides of the face and under the chin so that there is no danger of wind entering the helmet at the front thereof, which would not only be uncomfortable to the wearer, but would also cause flapping of portions of the helmet, thereby causing so much noise that theaviator could not hear any other noises.

Another object of the invention is to provide pads on the interior sides of the helmet for covering the ears of the user. i

A further object of the invention is to pro-, vide means whereby the chin straps lie snugly together when in fastened position and without wrinkling or creasing.

This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim. i

the helmet of the two side sections 1 and the two central sections 2, these sections being suitably fastened together, suchas by the double line of stitching 3. The front corners of the end sections are extended to form the with the V straps.

As shown in-these views, I prefer to form ingthe straps to bulge as they would if the straps were not tapered. The straps are fast he slot5lin the other strap and without causten ed by snap fasteners, a female part 6 of a fastener being placed at the free'end of each strap and a plurality of male parts 7 are placed on each side section 1 at the front lower corner thereof to engage the female parts, thus enablingthe helmet to'be adjusted to suit persons of different sizes.

As shown in the drawing, the front part of the helmet is so formed that the upper part thereof extends wellover the forehead of the wearer, with the front edges of the side sections 1 extending under the cheeks and with thestraps passing under the chin, and it will also be seen that the parts are so formed that when the straps are fastened, the front edges of the helmet snugly fit the face so that wind cannot enter the helmet nor cause the side edges to flap, as it does when these side edges are not snugly held against the side portions of the face. It will also be seen that the manner of connecting the straps together, with one strap passing through a slot in the I othcr, canses the straps to lie smoothly in overlapping-relation and to snugly fit the 1 1 chin.
