This invention relates to baggage or package carriers and is particularly designed to facilitate the carrying of heavy suitcases and the like by providing a roller support to take i the major portion of the weight of the bag, but which will permit the bag to be handled otherwise in substantially the same manner as is customary. To this end my carrier is made light in weight, readily detachable, adjustable to various sizes and types of bags, and is preferably so designed that when th`e owner or porter lets go of the handle, it will not roll.
Referring to the drawings where a preferred form of my invention is shown,

As shown in the drawings my carrier is preferably made in the form of an attachment for traveling bags, and comprises a carriage portion 1, a handle portion 2, and straps 3 and 4 connecting said portions. The carriage portion is preferably made in two parts 5 and 6, each part having journaled thereon a wheel 7, 8. Both parts are shown as U shaped, the edges of the part 6 being turned over to form grooves 9 and 1() to slidably receive the edges of the other part 5. By this or similar means the carriage is adjusted to any width bag.
Each part is also provided with upstanding flanges or ears 11, 12 and 13, 14, said flanges in turn being preferably provided with slots 15 through which the straps 3 and 4 are threaded. Each wheel is journalled on an axle 8 projecting from each ange. Anea 16 is also preferably placed in the forward side of part 6 to act as a stop for the forward part of the bag, while the side ianges are drawn against the sides of the bag by the straps, thus clamping the carriage firmly to the bag.
At the top of the bag the straps pass through apertures 17 in the base of the handle portion2. l Preferably an adjustable base is provided for the handle designed to clamp the top of the bag. As shown the base 1s formed of a plurality of bars or strips 18 and 19 of sheet material having their outer ends 20, 21 turned down and their inner ends adjustably connected as by a slot 22 in strip 18 and a bolt and wing nut 23 on strip 19. As mounted on the bag the handle or grip lies vforward of the center of the base portion of the top clamp (Figs. 2 and 5).
My attachment may, of course, be tted to the bag in any manner desired by the user. A preferred method of mounting it on a suitcase 24 is to turn the case on. end, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, so that the wheels will touch the ground without necessitating stooping of the one carrying the bag, and to secure the carrier somewhat forward of the center line thereof. As the operator Walks, the rear end 25 of the case will naturally be tipped off the ground and practically the entire weight borne by the wheels. When,
however, the operator lets go of handle 2, Y
the case will tilt rearwardly so that the rear edge rests 0n the ground, thus effectively preventing the suitcase running away if on an incline. By having the case clamped at bottom and top between the carriage and the base of the handle, at the sides by the fianges 11, 12, 13 and 14, and at the front and rear by the fianges 16 and 20 and 21, my carrier is quite firmly attached and will remain in place until removed.
In accordance with the provisions of the patent statutes, I have herein described the principle andoperation of my invention, to gether withythe apparatus which I now consider to represent the best embodiment thereof, but I desire to have it understood that the apparatus shown is only illustrative and that the invention can be carried out by other means. Also, while it is designed to use the various features and elements in the combination and relations described, some of thesc may be altered and others omitted without I use.

1. A detachable carrier for hand baggage including an adjustable base comprising a pair of interfitting, freely slidable parts having upstanding ianges on the outer edges thereof, a wheel journalled on the iange of each part with the axle thereof extending substantially parallel to the direction of adjustment of said parts, spaced straps threadled through slots in opposite ends of said flanges, and a handle spaced from said base and also secured to said straps whereby the tension of said straps keeps said flanges clamped against the sides of the bag.
2. A detachable carrier for hand baggage comprising an adjustable base adapted to be clamped under the forward portion of said hand baggage comprising a pair of intertting parts having upstanding iianges on the outer edges thereof whereby the breadth of the base may be varied, a wheel journalled on each flange, spaced straps threaded through slots in said flanges, an ear at the forward end of said base, and a handle spaced from said base also secured to said straps and including a two-part adjustable base having an ear at each end, said handle being secured to the forward portion of said twopart base so as to lie above said adjustable ase.
3. A detachable carrier for hand baggage including an adjustable base comprising a pair of interltting parts having upstanding anges on the outer edges thereof and an ear on the forward portion of one of said parts, said parts being freely telescoping laterally to vary the width of the base, a wheel journalled at one 'side of each fiange, straps threaded through slots in said flan es, and a handle spaced from said base an also secured to said straps whereby the tension on the straps keeps the flanges clamped against the side of the bag.
