. IMPROVEMENT IN coRsETs.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,789, dated June 13, 1876; application filed February 23, 1876. l
To all lwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRIET H. MAY, of Birmingham, in the county of New Haven and State of Connetticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corsets, of which the following is a specification:
This invention consists, first, in connecting the breast portions of a corset by means 10i' adjustable straps, so as to keep them in position and bridge the space between them to prevent the clothes of the wearer from sinking in the hollow between the breasts; second, in the combination, with the adjustable straps, of spring-pads, removably secured to the cori set, serving to distend the front, to form breast protuberances, and keptin place by said straps.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is iront elevation of the corset. Fig. 2 is an' inlferior view of the front half of the corset. Fig. 8 is a detached view of one of the spring-pads used in connection with the adjustable straps corset in front, and by the buckle G attached l to the strap E, said busts can be adjusted, as required.l
By the use of the straps E F, secured to the busts, and ad justably connected, said busts are adapted to be kept in position. for different persons, and the space between them is bridged over to keep the clothes from sinking in the hollow between the breasts. The combination ofthe adjustable straps and the removable springpads gives to the front of a corset the protuberances of a natural breast,
which is strong enough to support the clothes without touching the person, and can be kept in shape and in different positions for persons ot' dii'erent sizes without trouble. 4
The following is'what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The strapsl E F, attached to the bust,
and connected by a buckle, G, or other ad,-
justable fastenings, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination, to form a bus't on a corset, and keep it in position, ofremov'able pads C and straps E F, adjustably connected together, all as set forth.
