IMPROVEMENT IN STEAM'CO-OKERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,781, dated June 13, 1876; application filed April 15, 1876.

To all lwhom it may concern:

Be it known that I, NATHAN JEWETT, of Toledo, in the county of Lucas, and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Steam-Cookers; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and'exact description thereof, reference being'had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of ths'specitication. t.

rIhe nature of my invention consists-,iin the construction and arrangement of a steam cooking apparatus, the peculiarities of which will he hereinafter more particularly described.

In the accompanying` drawings, making a part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a longitudinal, and Fig. 2 a cross, section of my apparatus.

In the `figures, A represents a furnace-box, with the fire-chamber B in front, and the smoke-pipe C at the rear. Hinged to this fur nace-box, over the front of the re-chamber, is

' a water-box, D, which is made rectangular, as

seen, and which extends over the entire respace.A F F represent a series of elbow-pipes, which are placed beneath the Water-box, with their ends )assinnr into it and the 'oints made water-tight. The pipes do not communicate with each other except through the box. The ends of each ot'. these pipes alternate'as to height on each side of the box, where they enter. Every alternate end ot' a pipe is made higher than the one next to it, so that a current of water will b e produced in the box during the time the Water is in a state of ebullition. By the use of this series of pipes I also 'secure more lire and heating-surface.

H H are two troughs, inverted as shown, and which have their edges scalloped to allow of a free passage of water to and from them. These troughs are placed over the ends of the pipes F F,-landvtheir upper sides are connected D, and is provided with a suitablev cover, J. l vI use the lower chamber (the one beneath this box I) as a steamer, while the box I itself is used for cooking. Instead of the slats E, I may use simply a sheet of perforated meta v Such portions-of this machine as it is possiblel to make of wood may be constructed of that material, while the balance can be made of sheet and cast metal.

Having thus fully described my invention,

What -I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The rectangular water-box l), as constructed, provided with the pipes F F, and combined with the furnace-box A, asy and for the purpose set forth.

2. The troughs H H,covered by slats E E, and covering the alternating pipes F F, the edges of said troughs being formed substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

3. The combination of the furnace-box A,

water-box D, pipes F, troughs H, slats E, and box I, having lid J, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
