This invention relates to adevicefor holding lamp bulbs while they are being screwed into or out of their sockets. It is articularly useful in handling bulbs street lamps, and of fixtures suspended from high ceilings.

It is an object of the invention to provide a device of this character which can be used in connection with bulbs of difierent sizes and can be readily pushed into or pulled out of engagement with a bulb without injuring it. v

A further object is to provide a lamp holder which will tightly grip said bulb at any time so that it can be properly rotated.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment ofthe invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departin from the spirit of the invention.

preferably cylindrical and has a short shank 12 at one end adapted to fit snugly into the socket 3, this shank being formed with crossed grooves 13, so that when the shank is inserted into the recess 3 it can straddle the arms 5'..60 That end of the block remote from the shank 12 can be formed with a depression as shown at 14. A cord 15 or other flexible device can be used for connecting the block 11 to one of the arms 5.

In practice the bulb to be handled is forced between the deflecting fingers 7 so as to stretch the springs 8. The bulb will be firmly gripped by the sleeves 10 and, ifa small bulb I is used the supplemental block 11 can be: positioned at the end of sleeve 2 as shown so as to provide a seat at 14 for the bulb.

With a bulb positioned as described it can be readily raised to a fixture by means of the long handle 1 androtated so as to screw there into. Thereafter the device can be pulled 011' of the bulb without injury. Should it be desired to unscrew the bulb the foregoing operation would be reversed.

What is claimed is: 1. A device of the class described includ ing a handle, arms radiating therefrom, gripping arms pivoted to the radiating arms, a relatively soft bulb engaging material extending around the arms, resilient connections:- between the arms for holding them normally converging, and supplemental bulb supporting means including a block, means for de tachably connecting the block to the handle, 7 and a flexible connection between said block and the handle.

2. The combination with a handle having a socket at one end and arms radiating from the handle and extending across the socket, of gripping arms pivotally mounted on theradiating arms, yielding means for holding the gripping arms normally pressed toward each 7 other, a supplemental supporting block, and meanson said. block for insertion into the socket for rotation with the handle.
