IMPROVEMENT m BURIAL APPARATUS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,68 1, dated June 13, 1876 application filed May 1, 1876.

A is a deep strong box, mounted on truckwheels B to run sidewise, with closed top 0,
open side D, and dumping-bottom E, the top being permanently attached, the side hinged to open and close, and thehottom being hinged, and also connected to the toothed bar F by links G, to be opened and closed by the crank-shaft H and pivot I. J represents the cranes for lowering the coffin by the chains K and crankshaft L. Said cranes are pivoted to the ends of the box inside of the opening D, to swing out on the grave, and to close in for protection when the box is shut up. The shaft I has a ratchet and pawl for holding the cofiin when required. After the coffin is lowered, the box is moved along over it on the track N for dumping the earth in. P represents shelving end-hoards, that may be put in the box in case the grave is a short one.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent In a burial apparatus, the combination of crank-shaft H, pinion I, rack-bar F, links G G, and hinged bottom pieces E E, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
