FLOOR DRAIN Filed July 20, 1927 I N VEN TOR.
[ah/4B0 MA. Zaaazv BY M A TTORNEY Patented Dec. 30, 1930 UNITED STATES EDWARD W. N. BQOSEY,
F DETROIT, MICHIGAN FLOOR DRAIN Application filed July 20,
This invention relates to floor drains, and the object of the invention is to provide a floor drain in which the drain plate may be varied in its position in relation to the remainder of the drain by use of difl'erent size nipples.
Another object of the invention is to provide a floor drain in which different lengths of nipples or sleeves may be used to bring the drain plate to proper relation with the floor surface.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide a floor drain of the character described so arranged that seepage through the floor is carried into the drain.
A further object of the invention is to provide a floor drain arranged for use with a lead flashing whereby the lead flashing which carries the seepage back to the drain may be caulked in place in the drain.
These objects and the several novel features of the invention are hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and the preferred form of construction by which these objects are attained is shown in the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 is a section through a floor drain embodying my invention.
The drain comprises a cup shaped member 1 having a depending threaded flange for connection with the drain pipe. The member 1 is provided with a shoulder 2 and an enlargement 3 having an outwardly extending flange 4:. An annular member 5 is provided having a flange 6 seating on the shoulder 2 and an inwardly extending flange 7 which is threaded as shown and provided with a series of apertures 8. The lead flashing 9 is carried into the space 10 between the member5 and the enlargement 3 and this space is .filled with caulking as shown. A nipple 11 is threaded into the flange 7 and a seepage ring 12 is positioned about the nipple l1 and rests upon the upper edge of the member 5. The nipple 11 is'threaded at the upper end and a drain head 13 is threaded thereonto and carries the apertured drain plate 14.
' When the floor is laid the lead flashing 9 is 7 carried out to extend over the under side of 1927. Serial No. 207,088.
'the floor and when the floor is laid the parts are embedded in concrete. This construction is especially adapted for use with floors in which seepage is likely to occur through cracks in the concrete or through the concrete itself and the object of the lead flashing 9 is to carry the seepage along the flashing to the. seepage ring through which the water may pass and thence through the apertures 8 into the drain. By use of nipples 11 which are made up in standard lengths and sizes the position of the drain plate 14 may be varied in relation to the flashing 9 to accommodate the drainage fitting to floors of diflerent thicknesses. By use of the seepage ring 12 the apertures 8 cannot be easily stopped up by foreign matter passing into the space 15 and by use of the caulking in the space 10 the seepage cannot flow between the members 5 and 3.
From the foregoing description it becomes evident that the device is very simple and eflicient in operation; will not easily get out of order, and provides a means for adjusting the drainage fitting for use with floors of different thicknesses.
Having thus fully described my invention, its utility and mode of operation, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is- 1. A floor drain comprising a cup shaped member having an annular shoulder, a lead flashing extending into the cup shaped member, an annular member positioned on the said shoulder and havingan inwardly eXtending threaded flange provided with a series of apertures therethrough, a seepage ring positioned on the annular member, a nipple extending through the seepage ring and having one end threaded into the flange of the, annular member a drainage head in threaded relation with the opposite end of the nipple, the seepage ring allowing seepage between the annular member and the nipple and through the apertured flange of the annular member, the space between the annular member and the lead flashing being filled with caulking to the level of the top of the cup shaped member securing the flashing and the annular member in position.
2. In a floor drain, a cup shaped member having an annular shoulder, an annular member positioned on the shoulder and having an inwardly extending threaded flange, and an external flange at its bottom end, a caulking between the annular member and the cup shaped member for securing the annular member in position, a seepage ring positioned on top of the annular member, a nipple extending through the seepage ring and threaded at one end into the threaded flange of the annular member, the said flange being provided with a series of apertures therethrough and a drain head supported on the upper end of the said nipple.
In testimony whereof I sign this specification.
EDVARD WV. N. BOOSEY.
