My invention relates to new and useful improvements in heating apparatus, and more particularly to heating stoves having an enclosing casing or jacket.
An object of my invention is to provide novel means for securing the jacket or casing to the stove. 7
Another object is'to construct the jacket or casing such that the means for securing the same to the stove will be concealed.
The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts, to be more fully described hereinafter, and the novelty of which will be particularly pointed out and distinctly claimed.
In the accompanying drawings to be taken as a part of this specification, I have fully and clearlyillustrated a preferred embodiment of my invention, in which drawings- Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of my heating apparatus;

Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, 1 designates, generally, a heating apparatus comprising a substantially rectangular base or supporting framework member 2, on which are mounted a heating stove 3 and a jacket or casing 4which is spaced laterally from the'stove 3 to provide an air flow space 5 therearound. The base member 2has legs 6 positioned at-the corners thereof to support the stove above the floor level to permit inflow of "air tothe space 5.
The stove 3 includes an ash-pit member? which is supported on the base member 2 and which carries a fire-pot 8 on which is supported a combustion chamber casing 9. The fire-pot 8 which is substantially in the form of an inverted truncated hollow cone seatson an annular shoulder 10 surrounding the grate opening into the ash-pit member. The top edge of the fire-pot has a substantially vertical groove 11 in which the lower edge 12 of the casing 9 fits. At the top and rear of the combustion chamber 9 is a duct 13 for carrying off the products of combustion, the duct opening through the rear of the casing 4. The ash-pit member 7 extends forward, as at 14, from the fire-pot 8 and is substantially rectangular, in vertical cross-section. The front of the member 7 is open, providing a marginal surrounding edge 15. The top wall 16 of the extension 14 has a pair of spaced semic'ylindrical hollow portions 17, such that the edge 15 is semicircular at the portions 17 The open front of the member 7 is partially closed by a vertical, substantially rectangular frame member 18 having horizontal top and bottom members 19, 20, respectively,which are joined rigidly byvertical side members 21. The top member 19 has intermediate its endsand opposite the portions 17, upwardly projecting semi-circular portions 22. On the rear face of the member 18 and extending therearound adjacent the outer edge thereof, are spaced parallel ribs 23, 24, which together provide a groove 25 in which the edge 15 seats. Onthe top of the frame member 18 and member 7 are oppositely disposed lugs 26 which are rigidly secured together, as by nuts and bolts, or the like, 27, to hold thereby the frame member 18 tightly to the ash-pit member 7 Onthe front face of the frame member 18 and surrounding the rectangular door opening 28 formed by the inner marginal. edge of the vertical and horizontal members, is a continuousforwardly projecting flange 29. Pivotally supported by a vertical side member 21 to swing in a substantially horizontal plane, are horizontal arm or hinge members 30 which are'rigidlyfixed at their free ends, as by screws 31, or the like, to a door or closure member '32. Extending rearward from the member 32 is 'a' continuous marginal flange 33 which, when,the memher 32 is closed, abuts the flange 29 to close the opening 28. The door 32 has a handle 34 which operates a latch, preferably of any well-known concealed type. The casing 9 projects forwardly from the fire-pot, as at 35, and is substantially rec tangular in vertical cross-section. This projecting portion 35 has an open front providing a surrounding edge 36. The bottom wall of the projection 35 has a pair of semi-cylindrical hollow portions 37, such that the edge 36 is semi-circular at the portions 37. The open front of the combustion chamber casing 9 is partially closed by a vertical, substantially rectangular frame member 38 having horizontal top and bottom members 39, 40, respectively, which are joined rigidly by vertical side members 41. The bottom member 40 has intermediate its ends and opposite the portions 37, downward projecting semi-circular portions 42. On the rear face of the member 38 and extending therearound adjacent the outer edge thereof are spaced parallel ribs 43, 44 which together provide a groove 45 in which the edge 36 seats. Projecting upward and downward from the top and bottom members 39, 40, respectively, are lugs 46 which are positioned opposite lugs 47 on the casing 9. These lugs 46, 47 are secured together by nuts and bolts 48, or the like, to thereby hold the frame member 38 and easing 9 rigidly together. On the front face of the frame member 38 and surrounding the rectangular door opening 49 formed by the horizontal and vertical members, is a continuous forwardly projecting flange 50. Pivotally supported by one of the side members 41 to swing in a sub stantially horizontal plane are arm or hinge members 51, the free ends of which are rigidly secured, as by screws 51, or the like, to a door or closure member 52. Extending rearward from the door 52 is a marginal surrounding flange 53 which abuts the flange 50 when the door 52 is closed, thereby to close the fuel feed opening 49. The door 52 has a handle 54 which operates a latch, which is preferably of any well known concealed type.
The casing or jacket 4 preferably comprises a rear panel member 55, side panel members 56, a front panel member 57, and a top member 5k T he panel members are rigidly joined to each other, or interlocked, along their vertical side edges, as at 59, Fig. 5, to provide a casing or jacket which is substantially rectangular in horizontal cross-section. The top member 58 is supported upon the panel members 55, 56 and 57 to close the top of the casing 4, and is fastened thereon in any suitable manner. Each of the side panel members 56 is preferably provided with a grille-work 60 adjacent the fire-pot 8 to permit the heating of obj ects by radiation. The top member 58 is also provided with a grille-work, not shown, to permit flow of air currents upward through the space 5 and out at the top of the jacket for heating by convection. The front panel member 57 is preferably substantially in the plane of or flush with the doors 32 and 52, and is provided with openings 61, 62 in which the doors 52, respectively, are positioned, the doors when in closed position closing these openings. Extending inwardly from each of the horizontal and vertical edges of the opening 62 and at substantially rightaugles to the panel member, are spacing and supporting members or flanges 63 such that the opening is bounded by the flanges which may be bent inwardly from the material of the panel itself, or may be separate pieces or members welded or otherwise secured to the panel member along the edge of the opening 62. Each of the members 63 has a lateral flange 64 which extends away from the opening 62 and lies in a plane substantially parallel to the panel member 57. The members 63 bridge and substantially close the space 5 between the front panel member and the door frame member 38. Each of theflanges 64 has one or more apertures 65 through which is passed a bolt 66 which is rigidly secured or clamped to the flange by a nut 67, or the like. Each of the nuts 67 seats in a recess 68 formed in the front or outer face of the door frame member 38, and the bolt 66 projects through an alined aperture 69 in the frame member. The panel member 57 is rigidly secured to the frame member 38 by nuts 70, or the like, threaded on to the bolts 66 to draw the nuts 67 tightly against the frame member. The semi-cylindrical hollow portions 37 permit access to certain of the bolts 66 for applying the nuts 70 thereto. Extending inwardly from each of the horizontal and vertical edges of the opening 61 and at substantially right angles to the panel member are spacing and supporting members or flanges 71 similar in construction and function to the members 63. The member 71 which extends inwardly from the top edge of the opening 61 has a flange 72 similar to the flanges 64 and which is rigid y secured to the frame member 18 in the same manner as the flanges 64 are secured to the frame member 38. Through the flange 72 are passed bolts 73 clamped thereto by nuts 74 which seat in recesses 75 in the member 18. The bolts 7 pass through apertures 76 in the member 18, and the nuts 74 are drawn up tightly against member 18 by nuts 7 7 threaded on the bolts 73. The semicylindrical hollow portions 17 permit access to the ends of the bolts 73 for threading the nuts 77 thereon.
It will thus be seen that T have provided means for rigidly securing a aclzet or casing to a stove, or the like, at the door openings, which fastening means is concealed from View.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is v 1. A heating apparatus comprising a base member, a heating stove supported upon said base member, a casing supported on said base member and enclosing said heating stove, said stove having a door opening, said casing having an opening registering with said door opening, a closure member for said door opening, said casing being substantially flush with said closure member, said casing carrying inwardly extending members at its opening, and means securing certain of said inwardly extending members to said stove to rigidly support said casing at said casing opening.
2. A heating apparatus comprising a heating stove having a door opening, a closure member frame secured to said stove at said opening, a closure member supported by said frame and operable to close said opening, a casing enclosing said stove and spaced laterally therefrom and having an opening regis tering with said door opening and into which said closure member is movable, means carried by said casing at said casing opening for supporting and spacing said casing from said stove, and means securing said last-named means to said frame.

A heating apparatus comprising a heat-s ing stove having a door openlng, a closure member frame surrounding said opening, a closure member supported by said frame and operableto closesaid opening, a casing enclos ing said stove and spaced laterally therefron'r and having an opening registering with said door opening and into which said closure member is movable, the space at said openings between said casing and said stove being bridged by an inturned surrounding flange carried by and extending from said casing to said stove, and means securing said flange to said frame. 7 p

A heating apparatus comprising a heat ing stove having a door opening, a closure member supporting frame surrounding said opening, a casing enclosing said stove and spaced laterally therefrom, said casing having an opening registering with said door opening, a closure member swingingly sup ported by said frame and operable to close said openings, said member when closed being substantially flush with said casing, said casing having inturned portions bridging the space between said casing and said frame,

turned members bridging the space between said casing and the stove, one of said members having a flange extending laterally with respect to said casing opening and located behind the casing, and securing means engaging said flange and the stove to connect the same and secure the casing to thestove whereby the securing means is concealed by the casing from external view.

A'heating apparatus comprising a heating stove having a door opening, a casing enclosing said stove and spaced laterally v therefrom, said casing having an openlng registering with said door opening, a closure member supported swingingly by said stove and operable to close said openings, said casing having at the edges of its opening inturned flanges integral therewith andbridging the space between said casing and the stove, one of said flanges having at its inner portion a flange extending laterally with respect to said casing opening and located behind the casing, and securing means engagingsaid last-named flange and the stove to connect the same and secure the casing to the stove whereby the securing means is concealed by the casing from external view.

A heating apparatus comprising a heating stove having a door opening, a closure door for said opening, a casing enclosing said stove and spaced from said stove and having an opening registering with said door open ing, the opening through said casing being bounded by inwardly directed flanges carried by said casing, certain of said flangesjeach having at its inner portion a flange extending laterally with respect to the opening in the casing and spaced from and located behind said casing, and fastening means securing said last-named flange to the stove whereby said fastening means is concealed by said casing.

A heating apparatus comprising a heating stove having a door opening, a closure door for said opening, a casing enclosing said stove and spaced from said stove and having an opening registering with said door opening, the opening through said casing being bounded by inwardly directed flanges carried by said casing, certain of said flanges each having at its inner portion a flange extending laterally with respect to the opening in the casing and spaced from and located behind said casing, and a fastening bolt extending through said last-named flange and securing the same to said stove whereby said bolt is concealed behind said casing.
