Description

UNITE STATES PA OFFIE.
WILLIAM HENRY, OF TRENTON, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO GEORGE W. MOBERLY, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SULKV-PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,523, dated June 13, 1876; application filed January 13, 1876.
1'0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM HENRY, of Trenton, in the county of Grundy and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful In1pro\-'ements in Sulky-Plows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, referof parts, hereinafter more fully shown and de scribed.
In the drawing, A isthe axle. This is made of iron, and of the configuration shown in the drawing-that is, bent so as to form a series of slots, b b, the bent part being braced by One side of the axle a, is raised above the other a, the effect of this being that the frame, when the wheels B B are put on, is tilted slightly to one side. Through one of the slots b the plow-beam U is passed. To the rear end of this is pivoted a brace, D, the othor end of which is pivoted in the slot 1), adjoining that through which the plow-beam O is passed. To the front end of plow-beam U is pivoted a rod, d, having a series of perforations, e c. This rod is pivoted to, and operated by, a lever, E, having spring catch F, that engages with the ratchetsfof the segment g. By means of lever E the front end with each other, this latter operation being easily performed by simply depressing the lever wheirthe position of the axle A in its relation to tongue G is changed.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- In a sulky attachment for plows, the combination of the cranked axle A, strengthening keeps or clutches c a, tongue G, and lever I, whereby the'pitch of the axle A may be adjusted at the will of the operator, substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto aflixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
- -WILLIAM HENRY.
