IMPROVEMENT IN LAMP-CHIMNEVS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,521, dated June 13, 1876; application filed May 5, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, L. D. GUNN, of West Joplin, in the county of Jasper and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamp-Chimneys, of which the following is a specification:
My invention relates to bisected lamp-chimneys; and it consists in providing the edges of the two parts on each side with one or more projections, to fit in corresponding recesses in the edges of the other part, to prevent any up-and-down movement of either part independent of the other, and held together by a spring-band, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which forms a part of this specification, and in which Figure l is a side elevation, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through the line as w.
A A represent the two halves of a longitudinally-bisected lamp-chimney, of round, oval, or other suitable shape. On one edge of each part or half A is formed a projection, a, of any suitable form, and in the opposite edge of the, other part is a correspondinglyshaped recess, 1), into which said projection fits. More than one projection and corresponding recess, of course, may be used, if desired.
By this means, when the chimney is held together, neither part can move up or down independent of the other.
The two parts of the chimney are held together by means of a spring-band, B, at the bottom. This spring-band may be either an open flat spring, a coiled wire spring, or a corrugated metal band, only so that it will yield to the expansion of the glass, and contract as the glass contracts.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a longitudinally-bisected lamp-chimney, one or more projections, a, formed on one edge of each part, and corresponding recesses b, formed in the opposite edge of the other half, for the purposes herein set forth.
2. The combination of the bisected lampchininey A A, projection a, recesses b, and the metallic spring-band B encircling the bottom thereof, for the purposes herein set forth.
