This invention relates to underwear such as mens and boys drawers or athletic pants, and has for its principal object to provide an improved construction'in such garments whereby fullness is provided and seams avoided in the seat and throughout the crotch of the garment so that the same will afford the greatest of comfort to the wearer. It is also an object of the invention to provide a garment formed of a minimum number of parts of comparatively plain shape so that the said parts may be cut out of the fabric stock with a minimum of wastage and the construction of which will involve comparatively simple and easily performed seaming operations.

Other objects and advantages of my invention will be understood, by reference to the following specification and accompanying drawingsin which I have illustrated a pair of drawers or athletic pants constructed according to the preferred form of my invention.

Referring now to the drawings, a garment embodying my invention comprises a main body portlon 10 which includes a front part 11, side parts '12 and 13, a back part 14, and

15 and 16. According to the present invention, the entire garment may be formed of three sections of material such as shown in Fig. 5, these sections comprising apair df main right and

left sections

17 and 18 respectively and an insert section 19. As usual with mens and boys drawers and athletic and which serves pants, the sections or blanks are formed of substantially non-elastic textlle fabric.

Each of the

main sections

17 and 18 serves I to form substantially one half of the front of the garment, one of the side portions, a portion of the back, and a portion of a leg. In Fig. 6 I have shown the section 18 as it appears when united to the insert section 19 to form substantially one half of the garment. It will be seen that the projecting extension 20 on. the lower rear portion of the section 18 is united to the lower portion of the front edge 21 of the same section to form a part of the leg 16, the seams connecting these edges being disposed, when the garment is in use, in a substantially vertical plane and closely adjacent the front of the garment, as indicated in Fig. 4. 17 and 18 is provided at its upper frontportion with fly-forming offsets 22, and with the substantially straight front edges 21 below such offsets.

slightly increased in width intermediate its ends as at 24, and is reduced in width at its other end, as at 25. The broad front/end 23 is preferably slightly rounded as shown, and substantially one half thereof is secured to the 'upper part of each marginal edge 21 of the

17 and 18. The seam by which the wide end 23 of theinsert is secured to the said marginal edges is in line with and, in effect, forms a continuation of the inseams of each of the leg parts as shown most clearly in Fig. 3. The

17 and 18 and to the upper edges of the extensions 20 to complete the body of the garment and close the back, seat and crotch.- The insert preferably extends upwardly in the back of the garment between the

sections

17 and 18, to the waist. band 29 which may be of any suitable construction to finish off the top edge of the garment.

The length of the insert 19 is considerably greater than the normal length between crotch and waist band so that considerable fullness is provided in the length of the seat portion of the garment whereby the same is capable of being distended to substantially body fitting shape, as shown in Fig. 4. Vhen the garment is folded flat, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the excessive length of the insert 19 will cause the back or seat portion of the garment to fold in the manner shown in the said figures, so that a portion of the seat of the garment will appear belon the top of the crotch as clearly shown.

The width of the intermediate insert portion 24, which portion in the present instance constitutes a part of the seat of the garment, and the width of the forward end 23 of the said insert, is such that fullness is also provided in the seat and throughout the crotch of the garment.

The insert construction above described eliminates crotch seams which are often objectionable and there are no front to back seams terminating in the crotch. The tendency for the garment to creep and bind in the crotch, and bunching of the material in the crotch or closely adjacent thereto, is thus effectively overcome, whereby the greatest of comfort to the wearer of the garment is as sured. It is noted that the main body and leg sections, below the fiy-forming offsets 22 thereof, are provided with substantially straight front edges 21 which are spaced apart and to which the broad, convex forward edge 23 ofthe insert section 24 is secured by a seam of inverted U-shape and that the sections are so cut that this seam is disposed at the front of the crotch and substantially in the plane of the front of the garment. This arrangement provides fullness in the crotch and particularly at the forward portion thereof.

It is also noted that in the preferred form shown in Fig. 5, the concave upper edges of the extensions 20 of the

main sections

17 and 18 have a sharper curvature than the

convex edge portions

26 and 27 of the insert section which are united thereto, and this arrangement aids in producing afullness or pocket effect in the crotch portion of the garment.

I am aware that changes may be made from the above described form and construction of a garment according to my invention without departing from the spirit of the invention, the scope of which should be determined by reference to the following claims, the same being construed as broadly as possible consistent with the-state of the art. I L 1 I claim as my invention:

1. Drawers and the like for men and boys of substantially non-elastic fabric, having a closed back, seat and crotch and comprising a pair of main body and leg sections having flyforming offsets at their upper front portions with spaced, substantially straight front edges below said offsets and having extensions at the lower portions of their rear edges that are united by inseams to the lower portions of said front edges, and a unitary insert section forming the central portions of the back and seat and the entire-crotch portion of the garment and having a broad, convex front edge united to the front edges of said main section by a seam of inverted U-shape, both the side edges of said insert being united to the rear edges of said main sections and to the upper edges of the said extensions thereof by seams the lower front portions of which are substantiallyhorizontal and terminate at said inseams, the latter and the inverted U-shaped seam at the broad front edge of the insert scction being disposed in front of the crotch and substantially in the'plane of the front of the garment, substantially as described.

2. Drawers and the like for men and boys of substantially non-elastic fabric having aclosed back, seat and crotch and comprising a pair of main body and leg forming sections and an insert section forming the central part of the seat and the crotch of the garment and having a broad transverse front edge, and the side edges of which are united to the rear edges of the main sections, said main sections having fly forming offsets at their upper front portions and front edges below said offsets that are spaced apart and disposed substantially in the plane of the front of the garment and to which the broad front edge of said insert section is united by a seam of inverted U- shape, substantially as described.

3. Drawers and the like for men and boys of substantially non-elastic fabric, having a closed back, seat and crotch and comprising a pair or main body and leg forming sections and a unitary insert section forming the central portions of the back and seat and the entire crotch portion of the garment and having a broad, convex front edge, and the side edges of which are united to the rear edges of said main sections, said main sections having fly forming offsets at their upper front portions and substantially straight front edges below said offsets that are spaced apart and to which the broad convex front edge of the insert section is united by an inverted U-shape seam that is disposed, throughout its length, substantially at the front of the crotch and substantially in the plane of the front of the garment,substantially as described.
