Description

v Dec. 9, 1930. Y J KREISLER v 1,784,635
JEWELRY Filed Sept. 7, 1929 Z4 g1 25 Jncauss ATTORNEY Patented Dec. 9, 1930 uni-ran starts JAcouss KREISLER, or new ROCHELLE, Nnw YoRK, ASSIGNOR- TO aacauns KREISLEB I & 00., on NEW YORK, N. Y.
JEWELRY Application filed September ing it extremelysimple to couple and un-.
watch band having my improved terminal snap attached thereto Figure 2 is an enlarged bottom plan view of the snap in coupled posi-. tion; Figure 3 is a substantially longitudinal view taken on lines 33 of Figure 2; Figures at and 5 are perspective views of the two sections of the snap in uncoupled position;
Figures 6, 7, 8 and 9 are detail perspective.
views of the blanks from which the several parts of the snap are formed.
Referring to the drawings, 10 denotes a wrist watch band consisting of two lengths of cord 11, which may be of either fabric or metal. Each length of the cord 11 is folded 5 over to form a loop 12 at one end to receive the link 13 adaptedto be mounted on a pin or bar at the end of the watch-casing. The opposite ends of strip of cord are disposed side by side and at their ends are attached One of the sections of the snap forms the eye and is shown in Figure 5 ready to be applied and in blank form in Figure 7. The blank 14 from which the eye is formed cornprises a piece of metal having a central portion, side wings 15 which are bent downwardly at right angles to the mid portion to form the sides. The mid portion is shaped into two parallel semi-cylindrical parts 16. 0 The forward ends of each side portion are which, Figure 1 is a plan View of a wrist.
= to one member or section of the terminal snap.
7,1929. Serial No. 590,905.
vided with a tongue 18 projecting outwardly PATENT eer e between and beyond the guide pieces 17 the end of thetongue beingprovided with a square opening or eye 19. The portion of the tongue between the eye 19 and cylindrical portion-s 16 is bent downwardly at right angles to rel-m. a wall 20 from which the eye portion 19 is bent at right angles to lieparallel withthe axis of the. snap and abuts the inner faces 'ofthe guides 17 at'its sides' The corners of the blank forming the sides 15 are provided withopenings 21 toxaccommodate the projections 22 of a "clamping plate 23.
Theplate 23 is provided with upturned teeth 24: on linewith the akis of projections 22 so that when the ends of the cord 11 are placed in the grooves 16 and the clamping'plate 23 is pressed down into the sides 15, the teeth 24: will bite into the surface of the cord and securelyhold it in position within the section of the snap. It'will-beseen that the position of the clamp plate 23 and its teeth 24 are such that outward strain von the-cord 11 only'tends to swing the plate inwardly against the surface of the cord and the teeth 24 deeper into the surfacethereof.
The other hook member of the snap is illustrated particularly in Figure 4: and in blank inFigure 6. v The blank 25, from which the hook member is formed, comprises a piece of rnetal having acentral portion and side wings 26, the latter beingsimilar to the sides 15 0f the eye member.-*The mid portion is provided with two parallel semi-cylindrical parts27 and at itsforward end a tongue 28 extends outwardly beyond the ear pieces 29 which are projecting portions of the sides 26. The tongue 28 is bent first downwardly and .91) then forward to be disposed between the two I ears 29 and at its end is provided with a ends of a pintle pin 34 are mounted. Pivotally mounted on the pin 34: is a snap locking tongue 35. The tongue 35 is illustratively exemplified in Figures 3, 4L and 8 and comprises a strip of metal bent upon itself at one end to form a bearing 36 to embrace the pin 34, the opposite or free end being bent to form a hook 37 adapted to snap over the upturned hook end 31. A small projection 38 is mounted on the upper portion of the hook 37to enable the wearer to disengage the two hooks from each other.
After the two sections of the terminal snap are attached to the ends of the cords 11, coupling thereof is effected by bringing the sections together so that'the hook 31 is engaged under the cross bar at the end of the eye 19.
The other hook or tongue 35 is then brought down and sprung over the hook 31. This arrangement provides a secure coupling as well as a flexible joint for a wrist band and because of the extreme simplicity of the parts, the entire terminal snap is of a relatively small size, a point which is highly desirable in devices of this'character. i
Having now described my invention; what I claim and desire to secure-by Letters Patent is: r 7 i A terminal snap for a wrist watch band comprising" separate sections of'cord to be separably coupled together, and comprising two sections; each section thereof being provided with a longitudinally fluted upper wall to partly embrace an end of each cord, a clamping jaw mounted in each section for engaging the sections to the cords, the-sides of the sections being projected forwardly to provide parallel ears, one section having a projecting tongue disposed between its ears and providedwith an eye in the end thereof, the other section having a tongue disposed between its ears and turned upwardly at the end to form a hook to engage the eye from und'erneath,'a pintle pin supported between the ears of the second section, and a pivoted tongue mounted on the pinin the second section and provided with a downwardly turned hook end to spring over the first hook to. hold the eye loosely between the two tongues.
In testimony whereofhe has ailixed his signature. t-
JACQUES KREISLER.
