My invention relates to new and usefulir'nprovements in toilet paste tubecompressors, i
and has for an object to provide a device wherein it is nly necessary to lift a small handle to makeit possible to insert the rear end of the toilet paste tube, and then swing the handle downwardly to lock the same in a position after which, by turning a small knurled nut,the paste can be ejected from the tube "in afuniform and even manner.
In a like manner, to'removea fu1lycom pressed tube, it is merely necessary to swing thehandle upwardly and supply a new tube.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a toilet "paste tube compressor of but few parts, some "of "which parts may be stamped out in great quantities after-the proper diesaremade while other parts'may be bought from stock, thus necessitating'but little machine work in the; manufacture of the article. Y
Still another object'of the invention is to provide atoilet pastetube compressor, the
frame of"; which may be istampedout from blank metal and bent to shape while the other parts ma bequickl assembl'edto thus provideadevicethat is e'xtremely'cheap to manufacture andmay be sold at a relatively low'price;
Still another object of the invention is to provide a relatively small paste tube compress'or that is so arranged that it maybe fastenedtoa wallgthe dotted lines showing the tube in operative position andpartly com- Fig 1 is a front e evation with the hurled and 2, theremay be Seen abase p1 at e 18 Whlch may be of metal, bakelite, hard rubber; or 1 v quickly taken apart and new rollers or other parts substituted if they'should become dain- 'agedjin service.* E f With these ELHClOthBI objects in viewg the invention consists in certain' new and novel arrangements and combination of parts, as
will be hereinafter more fully described' and pointed out in the claims.
Referring now to the drawings a nutbr'oken away for the sake 'of'clearness; 2 a side elevationlof the toilet paste tube compressor and as it will appearlwhen separated position.

It will be noticed that this blank, as first formed, consists of an-oblong piece withthe small upwardly projecting tongue 2 and the opposite recess ,3, andit will be understood thatthe metal taken forming the tongue 2 ofone blank will formllthe recess 3 of the succeedingblank, so that there willbe no wastedmetal.
will be mentioned shortly. i
Glancing at 4 for the moment; will be seen that the blank isibent atthe lines S and 7 to thusiform the t wo side wings or "frames 8 and 9 while. the central portion of a the blank forms the rear wall 10 ofthe' frame.
Now, in the side Wa'llQS, there will be seen is a perspectivefofthe handle and of blanked metal, there Referringnow more-particularly to a small holefll andthe slotm and it will also be noticedthataportion of metal 13 is i forced downwardly to foim a' hook 145, which F may be seen in Fig. 1 In a like manner,
the wing 9is provided with a hole 15, slot 1 6 and a small integralhook 17. 1
Thesetwo hooks 14L and 17 are to ,hangthe toothbrushes on, so that they will be conveniently near the tooth paste.
2, 01 mightbecemented in a tile bathroom, if
desired, N This base plat'elS is provided with Referring now for the moment to Figs. 1
a recess 19 over which thetongue 2 oft frame will fit after the tongue has been bent to shape, as shown in Fig.4.
Beneath this recess and on the base is a raised lug 20, which will engage against the walls of the recess 3 when the frame is placed on the base, as will be readily understood.
Vithin this frame 1, there are two rollers,
the one being a driven or idle roller 21 and.
two small screws 23 and 24:, after beingpassed through the rear ends 25 of the handle, also pass through the respective slots 12 and 16 of the frame where they thread into the roller, so that when the handle 2'? is swung upwardly, the driven or idle roller may move rearvvardly in the bearing slots 12 and 16.
The driving roller 22 has the small threaded t-runnions which are adapted to pass respectively through the holes 11 and 15. These trunnions have a slotted head, are removable and, of course, when in place, lock the roller within the frame. These little trunnions also act as locking'pins for the handle carrying the drivenor idle roller as, when the handle 27 isswung forwardly and downwardly, as shown in Fig. 2, the trunnions will fit in two slots 31 and 32, thus holding the driven or idle roller in itsforward position and in close proximity to the driving roller. In other words, the handle functions as a cam so as to pull thetwo rollers into close proximity and place the gears in their meshing position or to throw them apart. Furthermore, by having the handle formed as shown, when it is in its lower position, it slips over the two forward ends of the wings to thus brace the entire structure.
The roller 21 is provided with a small gear 38 while the roller 22 is provided with a small gear 34.
Now, at all times meshing with the gear of the driving roller 22 is a worm 35 that is formed on the driving shaft 36. Referring now particularly to Fig. 6, this operating or driving shaft 36 has its rear end mounted in an opening 37 in the rear of theframe 10 while the shaft near its front end is reduced, as indicated at 40, so that it may pass of a collapsible tube A may then be placed up between the two rollers.
The handle will then be moved downwardly and the roller and the handle will be moved forwardly until the two small gears 33 and 34 are in mesh. The handle will be finally forced downwardly until the slots 31 and 32 will engage the little trunnions on the forward roller, thus tightly locking the rollers and the gears together. i
The end of the shaft 36 may have the integral knurled nut 38 thereon, and now to compress the tube, it will only be necessary to give the knurled nut 38 a couple of turns which, through the action of the worm, will drive the two-interlocked" gears, turn the rollers and thuscompress the tube.
After the 'tubehas been'finally compressed, it takes but a moment to throwback the handle which willmove the driven or idle roller from the driving roller and the old tube maynow be removed and a new one quickly inserted. The handle will be forced downwardly again to thus lock the gears in mesh and pull the rollers into close proximity, when the device is again ready for use.
The rollers may be bought from stock and likewise the little gears, so thatbut' little work is necessary to assemble them.
In the same manner, the worm and-the shaft may be an integral piece, and should the worm shaft beeomedamaged, it will be only necessary to remove the little threaded 'trunnions and the worm shaft may be raised and then moved laterally, and quickly removed from the frame.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that I have devised a little collapsible tube compressor that may be used for tooth paste or shaving cream and wherein the frame may be struck from blank metal with but 'little waste of metal, the tongue'of one blank forming the recess of the other, and these tongues and'recesses forming efficient means for fastening the frame to a base. In the same manner, these blanks are provided with holes and slots, so that they act as bearings for the two rollers. thus making it'possible to quickly throw the two rollers out of driving connection. a r
It will be seen that by forming the device as hereinbefore explained, the entire article may be made at relatively small expense and may then be likewise quickly and cheaply assembled.
Finally, the device is one that should give long and efficient service, but should a part become damaged or worn, a new part may be quickly installed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as-n'ew and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A paste tube compressor comprising a frame, said frame having'at said sides hole openings and slot openings in alignment therewith, a roller having its axesjournaled in the hole openings, a roller journaled and slidable in the slot openings, said rollers having gear wheels, a handle memberpivotally connected with the axis of one of the rollers V and having recesses adapted to receive the axis of the other roller, and means carried by the frame for turning one of the gear wheels. I 2. A paste tube compressor comprising a frame having at opposite sides hole openings and slotopenings in alignment therewith, a' roller having its axis journaled in the'hole openings, a second roller having its axis journaled and slidable in the slot openings, said rollershaving gear wheels, a handle pivoted to the a'xis'of that roller located in the a slot openings and having recesses adapted to engage the axis of the other roller, and means journaled injthe frame for turning one of the gear wheels.- l o 3. A paste tube compressor comprising a frame having at opposite sides hole openings and slot openings in alignment therewith, said frame having a tongue portion provided with a recess, a roller having its axis journaled in the hole openings, a second roller having its axis journaled and slidable in the p slot openings, said rollers having gear wheels, a handlepivoted to the axis of that roller supported in the slotopenings and having recesses adapted to engage the axis of the other roller, anda shaft journaled in the recess of said tongue portion and having a worm engageable with the gear wheel of that i a roller which is journaled in the hole open in s. a I
in A paste tube compressor comprising a 0 framehaving a tongue adapted to interlock with a support, said frame having at oppo site sides hole openings and slot openings in respective alignment with'each other, a roller having trunnions journaled in the hole openings, a second roller having .trunnions slidably mounted in the slot openings, a handle pivotally asso-ciatedwith the trunnions of the sliclablerollerand adapted to shiftthe said roller along said slot openings, each of said rollers having a gear, said gears interlocking when the handle is thrown to an operative position, means for turning one of said rollers to thereby cause the other roller to turn when the gears of the two rollers are interlocked, and thehandle locking overthe frame and the axes of one of the rollerswhen in its operable position to thereby hold the said gears in interlocked position.
In testimonywhereof I aflix my signature. ADOLPH O. SCHAEFER.
