PAPER-TOWEL AND TOILET-PAPER FIXTURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 1, 1917.
Application filed June 24, 1916. Serial No. 105,674.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that NEWTON S. HILLYARD, a citizen of the Uiiited States of America, residing at St. Joseph, in the county of Buchanan and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper-Towel and Toilet-Paper Fixtures, of which the following is a specification.
The objects chiefly sought by me in this invention are to simplify the construction of paper towel and toilet paper fixtures and adapt them to carry regulation paper.
I accomplish my objects by the mecha nism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure l is a top view of my invention;
Fig. 2 is a view of the lock end of the device;
Fig. 3 is a view of the adjuster end of the device;
Fig. 4 is a front view of the device;
Fig. 5 is a perspective of the device showing a carrier in position being replenished with paper;
Fig. 6 is a top view of the lock, the plate of the carrier removed;
Fig. 7 is a back view of said lock, and
Fig. 8 is an end view of said lock the end plate of the carrier removed showing a stop on the opposite stationary end.
Similar letters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views.
The frame of my paper towel and toilet paper fixture is preferably constructed of spring metal, A representing the rear supporting part and B B duplicate arms. Oneof said arms has a pointed end C, turned inwardly, and is also provided with a shoulder C. The opposite arm B is also turned inwardly, as shown in Figs. 1 and 5, and at its extreme end is curled outwardly, as shown by the letter D to limit the rotation of the carrier-and paper. This construction serves two functions: one to limit the rotation of the carrier E, the other that of serving as an adjuster when the carrier is in operation in the detachment of a sheet of paper. Said carrier is provided with an opening in each end H, with which C and D are respectively adapted to engage. Said carrier is also provided with a stop I at its stationary end J to prevent a roll of paper J traveling beyond a proper position when replenishing the carrier. K is a spring lock that engages shoulder C to insure a secure lock during the period the carrier is furnished with a supply of paper as the spring is pressed during this period into shoulder C by the roll of paper thereover, and the pressure of the core E of paper insures the spring to serve as a look as said spring is invisible so long as the paper core remains 'on the carrier. Said core is constructed with four right angle corners L L- to prevent a roll of paper operating independently of the carrier thereby causing the core in a roll of paper'to be conformed to the form of the carrier. The spring frame can only be properly assembled with the carrier by the insertion of the shoulder end into and through the opening in the stop end I of the carrier, and by said frame being threaded through said opening to its normal position as shown in Fig. 5, after which said spring metal shoulder end is sprung outwardly before engaging said carrier and spring lock into normal position as shown in Fig. 1.
l/Vhat I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a device of the kind described the combination of a frame consisting of a single strand of spring metal the central part bent vertically upward and horizontally across forming an upright back, duplicate arms projecting horizontally forward and turned inwardly at right angles toward each other, a pointed end on one of said inwardly turned arms and a shoulder spaced outward therefrom, the inwardly turned end of the opposite arm curled outward, a carrier having four right angle corners and provided with an opening in each end spaced close to one side of the carrier to prevent the same from traveling beyond a fixed position, a spring lock in the end of said carrier, said shoulder and spring lock engaging each other, the curled end of said opposite arm engaging with the opposite end of said carrier through said end opening serving as a retainer for the carrier and as an adjuster to prevent the carrier traveling beyond an abnormal position when a sheet of paper is being detached, and a stop at the stationary end of said carrier to prevent the paper on the carrier traveling beyond its proper position while the paper is being replenished thereon.
2. The combination with a paper towel and toilet paper fixture, a spring metal supporting frame and arms extending horizontally forward therefrom, of a metal carrier having four right angle corners with an opening in each to permit the engagement of said arms, a pointed end on one of said arms turned inwardly, a shoulder on said arm, an opposite arm turned inwardly its extreme end curled outwardly to limit the r0- tation of the carrier and serving as an adjuster in the detachment of paper, a stop at the stationary end of the carrier to prevent paper passing beyond its proper posi- 10 tion when replenishing the carrier and a spring lock to engage a shoulder.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
