WALTER B. BALLOU, OF NORTH ATTLEIBORO, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR 3 3. BLACKINTON 8c ('10., OF NORTH ATTLEIBORO. MASSACHUSETTS.
BELT-BUCKLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 16,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER B. BALnoU',
a citizen of the United States, residing at North Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Belt- Buckles, f which the following is a specification.
This invention relates tocertain new and useful improvements in belt buckles and the primaryjobject thereof is to provide a buckle in which the bail may be applied after the buckle body has been polished and finished, and also wherein the gripping roller; may be removed and applied at will,'particularly'for the purpose of piercing the front face of, the buckle with a monogram or other ornamentation.
In the drawingsFigure 1. is a perspective view of the invention. Fig. 2 is a rear plan view. Fig. 3 is a section on the line 33 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a similar view on the line 44 of Fig. 3.
The belt buckle has a body 1' with'side flanges 2 the latter formed with inclined slots 3. The roller has a hollow cylindrical body 4 corrugated peripherally so as to effectively grip the leather belt, and is secured to the body by means of pins having tapered ends 5 which have a frictional drive into the ends of roller body 4 and have heads 6 which engage over the flanges 2. These pins have sufficient frictional engagement with the walls of the bore of roller lso as to effectively secure the roller in position. The bail 7' has cranked ends 8 which latter are passed through openingsprovided therefor in the flanges 2 and are headed at 9 by the usual process common to riveting, subsequent to the ends 8 being passed through the openings provided therefor. It Witt. apparent that the cranked ends of the h permit the latter to be easily passed the! the flange openings provided thereier, slightly springing the flanges apart or o wardly, which enables the bail to be in. ed after the buckle body has been pletely polished and finished. the rollermay be easily removed at any sired time for the purpose of either pierceaing the body or any other reason. This final securement of the bail after the article has been polished is important since with its presence during polishing the' latter op eration would be awkward, tedious and time consuming, if not preventing perfect finish and polish being imparted to the buckle body.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a belt buckle, a body having side flanges provided with inclined slots and with openings, a bail having cranked ends passed through the openings and subsequently headed, and a hollow roller having tapered headed pins driven thereintc through the slots.
2. In a belt buckle, a body having flanges with inclined slots, a roller between the flanges, and pins driven into the ends of the roller so as to permit removal of the sane-12., the pins extending through the slots.
In testimony whereof I have signed name to this specification in the presence of 'two subscribing witnesses.
