This invention relates to face masks, and more 1n part cular to a novel construction oi face masks or -bandages designed for application to the face for the purpose of removing or preventing the formation of sagging,
Wrinkles and other signs of age. V
Among the objects of my invention are'to provide a mask or bandage constructed of elastic material, such as rubber, Whichyvill be effectiveinremedying, or preventing the formation or facial defects, vtlie m'askofjthe present invention having been scientifically it designed to prevent the-sagging or drooping of those portions of the face, chin and neck a 5 which naturally or normally exhibit a tendency to sag or droop, resulting, in the formation of lines or Wrinkles; furthert'o provide a novel construction offacial masks, provided With straps or other fastenin g ineans,
# which are adapted to hold said mask conformably to-the contour ofthe face, chinand neck; further to'provide anovel construction of mask provided with asingle opening for the eyes and nose, andwhich opening is of 5 approximatelytriangular shape with the side edges, of the trianglecut on a convex curve,
so that theside portions of the neck contignous to said sideed'ges Will contact with the cheeksyofthe wearer, as close to the no se as a 0 may be possible,;the topedge of saidtriangular opening beingprovided with a depending mlddleportlon.
My invention operation; and such further obj ects, advantag-es, and capabilities as Will later more ful- U ly appear. i My invention further res des in the comp'parts illustrated in theaccompanying draw: rings, and While I have shown thereln a preferred embodiment, I- desire ltto be understood thatthesame is susceptible of modifica- T 5 tionand change, without departing from the p lip engaging portion 3 ,fromthe chin and neckengaging portion 4, andis adapted to expose the lips. Referring more indetail tomy novelconstruction ofmask, the numeral 1 designates a sheet or piece oi material, preferably elas tic. This material may be rlibber alone or in y combination with a softprotective covering of any of the Well"known fabrics, such as :flannelfsilk, yvoolfetc. V
engage the forehead ofthe" wearer, poi tion 3 for engaging the upper lip, anda portion l i or engaging thechin and neck,- The forehead engaging portion at its central "up periportion gradually. enlarges at the'center thereof as at 5, soas tocover the entirefii'or'e- .headf i terial adjacent thisportion7 extending up- The portions 2 andgareseparated an enlarged opening 67," substantially triangular The mask comprises a portion 2 adapted to I wardly and outwardly on both sides thereof as at 8. f This: triangularly shaped opening is so constructed asltobringzthe side edges of the opening against the cheeks of the wearer as close to the sidelof the nose possible.
The opposite edges 9 are shaped ithslightly a H a a convexed curvesso to form the'dovvnwardfurther provides a constrircv tion of facial mask or bandage ofmaximum 9- simplicity, efficiency, economy, and easelof ,extendingsidesof the triangle and are at- ,tached to the edges 8 bymean's ofthe sharply curved connecting portions" 10, i which con-1,
necting portions are so constructed as mcjause the mask to fit closely adjacent the opposite ends of each eye. "The edges 9 are designed ,soas to contact theclieeks and preventbuncha A second opening 11 separates theupper videdinto a chin engagingportion 12,s"o as to extend beneath and (cover the entire chin,
and extending rearwardly beneath the chin and merging into a neck engaging portion 13, which terminates preferably at the base of the neck.
A pair of straps 14 extend outwardly from the portion 2 engaging the forehead and are adapted to fit around the head as shown clearly in Figs. 1 and 8. These straps are provided with adjustable fastening means or clasps 15, such as snap buttons or any other attaching means. The adjustable attaching means allow for the standardizing of my mask to fit any size of head, and further allows for the regulation of the tension exerted on the forehead engaging portion.
Similarly projecting from the chin and neck engaging portion 1-, and more particularly projecting from the neck engaging section 13, are straps or other means 16 adapted for use in substantially the same manner as the strap 14, the strap 16 bein adapted to encircle the neck and be fastened at the back thereof. Attaching means or snaps 17 are provided on the member 16, so as to. provide a tight fit of the mask around the chin and neck of the wearer. The straps 14 and 16 are separated by means of cut-away portions 18, the shape of such cut-away portions being such as to cause all parts of the mask to tightly contact the contour of the face, when the straps 14 and 16 are connected by means of their attaching elements. These straps 14 exert a tension on the forehead engaging portion and portions immediately adjacent thereto, while the straps 16 cause the upper lip engaging portion 3, the cheek engaging portions 9 and the chin and neck engaging portion 4 to be tightly drawn into place to fit the facial contour.
In order to properly position the mask, and to hold the same tightly in position, I provide an auxiliary strap 19 connected to the mask at 20 by any suitable means, said strap being adapted to extend from this attachment, which is preferably on one side of the mask, around the chin portion and upwardly around the head, the opposite end of said strap being adapted to have engagement through the medium of attaching means 21, said auxiliary strap 19 providing a support for the jaws which normally have a tendency to sag, and also providing an auxiliary means for retaining the mask in place.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that I have developed a scientifically designed facial mask adapted to snugly fit the contour of the face, being so designed as to keep smooth, or smooth out, those portions of the face and neck at which there is a natural tendency for a sag or droop to appear. It is particularly important in a facial mask that provision be made for smoothing the sides of the eyes, the space between the eyebrows, the forehead, the cheeks, the upper lip, the chinand the neck. My novel construction of mask is so designed as to comprise means for engaging the face and neck at these points.
As the mask is made of elastic material, either rubber alone, or compounded with other material, or other elastic material, it will snugly fit the contour of the face with out wrinkling. If desired, the mask may be provided with an inner coating or surface of some soft material, so that no irritation to the skin may follow the use of my mask. Also preferably, if an inner coating or covering of fabric material is used, this material should have the property of absorbing any perspiration that may be set up. The mask is also preferably seamless on the inside, so as to prevent any irritation to the skin. It is comfortable, since the cut-away portions allow for natural breathing. The
eyes, nose and lips are free, and thus the use of the mask is in no way harmful, but is merely for retaining the same facial contour, while preventing or removing, sagging and drooping of the skin.
The depending portion or dip 7 is adapted to smooth out the frown which usually appears in the eyebrows of the face. The lip engaging portion 3 causes the skin to be drawn away at the formation of the deep lines which generally appear adjacent both nostrils to be smoothed out or eliminated. The check engaging portions and the edges 9 thereof tightly fit the contour of the cheek and tend to smooththe same.
Also, the neck engaging portion 13 is made relatively wide so as to fit downwardly upon the neck to prevent the deep lines whi h appear in the neck from forming.
From the above description, it will be seen that I have provided a novel constrtuztirm of mask which is admirably adapted to fit the present needs of facial mask, and one which will lend itself readily to adjustments to fit any facial contour of the wearer. The construction of the mask protects and supports all portions of the face, and positively prevents the bunching or drawing of the skin at points adjacent the engagement between the mask and the skin, so as to prevent any deformation.
Having thus disclosed my invention, I claim:
1. A facial mask constructed of a single piece of imperforate elastic sheet material having a single opening for the eyes and nose and a separate opening for the mouth, the opening for the eyes and nose being of approximately triangular shape with the slde edges of the triangle each cut on a 0011':
veX curve, so that the side portions of the" mask contiguous to saidside edges will contact with the cheeks of the wearer as close to the nose as may be possible, the top edge of said triangular opening being provided with a depending middle portion which is positioned to engage the face intermediate 7 between the eyebrows and approximately at the junction of the nose and forehead, said maskhaving a chin portion extending rearwardly beneath-the chin, and means for securing the mask inplace. a V a i 2. A facial mask constructed of a single 7 piece of imperforate elastic sheet material having a single opening for the eyes and p 10 nose and a separate opening for the mouth,
the opening for the eyes and nose being of approximately triangular. shape with the side edges" of the triangle eachv cut on a convex curve, so that the side portions of the i5 mask contiguous to said side edges will contact with the cheeks of the wearer as close to the nose as may be possible, the top edge of said triangular opening being provided with a depending middle portion which is positioned to engage the 'faceintermediate between the eyebrows and approximately at r the junction of the nose and forehead, said mask having a chin portion extending rearwardly beneath the chin, rearwardly extendi p 25, ing straps in'line with the forehead and the chin portions respectively, said straps having complemental attaching means for preventing rotation of the mask, and an auxiliary attaching strap secured to said mask 1 and positioned to be passed over the top of the head and beneaththe chin portion of the mask to anchor said mask against verti- V cal movement. a V j In witness whereof, I hereunto subscribe :w 'my name to this specification.
MARIE GIMENEZ.
