MASK FOR FACIAL TREATMENTS.

This invention relates to improvements in masks for use in giving facial treatments.

In the treatment of faces for the prevention and eradication of wrinkles for preventing sagging of the cheeks and for the prevention and cure of other defects and blemishes,

various expedients have been resorted to among others the use of rubber masks, the injection of paraffine, the stretching of the skin,

usually referred to as lifting etc. Experience has, however, proven that the rubber masks are highly objectionable as they prevent proper perspiration and produce a condition of irritation that more than outweigh any advantage that is derived from their use.

I have discovered that greatly improved re sults may be obtained if a silk mask is substituted for the rubber mask. These masks must be woven or knitted soas to be yielding and suificiently open to permit air to pass freely through the material so as to permit free perspiration; If the material used is knitted silk like thatemployed in underwear it will conform to the shape of the face which is an important consideration. For the best results the mask should be impregnated with a soothing chemical such as boracic acid.

In order to more clearly describe my invention and the manner of using the same, I shall have reference to the accompanying drawing in which the preferred embodiment thereof is shown and in which:

In Figure l of the drawing the mask has been shown applied to the face of the wearer and numeral 1 designates the material of the mask as a whole. This material, as above pointed out, is made ofelastic silk which conforms to the shape of the face to a great extent and is provided with openings 2 for the eyes and opening 3 for the nose an opening 4 for the mouth and two openings 5 for the cars. A

triangular piece has been cut out of the material near the inner corner of the eyes and sewed together again in the manner indicated 7 by numeral 6 so asto permit'the mask to conform more closely to the shape of the face at this point. Below the opening 4, the material has been cut and sewed together along lines 7 so as to permit the mask to conform to the shape of the chin and come into contact with the throat. In order to prevent the mask from sagging I have secured to the upper edge thereof two bands or straps 8 that are adapted to be'tied together at 9 so as to hold the cap onto the head. Directly behind the ears the material is provided with a projecting tab 10 to which the straps 11 are connected. These straps or bands cross at the back of the head and are tied together at the front of the forehead at 12. The lowermost corners 13 have straps 14 secured to them and these straps are also adapted to cross and are tied together at the front of the throat as indicated by numeral 15. When the mask is secured by means of the straps described, it will be held secure in place and firmly against the skin of the face. In Figure 2 I have shown the shape of the material from which the mask is made and in a general way the main body portion is in the form of a rectangle having a substantially straight upper edge 16 to the corners of which the straps 8 are secured. Sides 17 make substantial right angles with the upper side 16 and terminate at the tabs 10. A curved edge 18 connects the tabs with the point 19 from whence the material is cut on an incline line 20 which connect-s with the lower curved edge 21. A mask constructed in the manner shown and of elastic yielding silk conforms quite well to the outlines of the face and can be secured thereto as tightly as may be desired.

My method of employing this mask in the treatment of facial blemishes is as follows:

The skin, after being properly cleansed is annointed with suitable facial cream and the mask is then applied and tied securely to the head. In cases where the skin is sensitive, it is desirable to impregnate the material of the mask with boracic acid as this has a soothing andhealing action which improves the benclicial results derived from the treatment. It

is apparent that the mask will give good substantial support to the tissues and in case of sagging cheeks it will help to bring these back into proper position and to assist the tissues in becoming firm to the extent that the original outlines will be retained.

iaving now described my invention, what I claim as new is:

1. A mask for facial treatment comprising a body portion consisting of a single piece of porous closely woven, smooth, thin, textile fabric possessing an elastic characteristic and formed wit-h a chin receiving pocket, an in set neck covering part, a bridge piece providing a nose covering part, a part for covering the forehead and temples, a pair of cheek covering parts provided with openings for th passage of the ears, a bridge piece providing a covering for the upper lip, said mask having separate openings for the month and nose and openings for the eyes, tongues extending upwardly from the extreme ends of the temple covering parts and adapted to pass over the top of the head, tongues ext-ending rear- Wardly from the cheek covering parts and tongues connected with and extending rear- Wardly from the corners of the neck covering part.

2. A mask for facial treatment comprising a body portion consisting of a single piece of thin porous textile fabric having elastic properties, said mask being of such size that it will cover the entire face and provided with separate openings for the mouth, nose, ears and eyes respectively, the material having a triangular portion removed adjacent each eye opening, the edges of the notch thus produced being sewed together whereby the mask Will conform to the shape of the nose and fit the face closely around the eyes In testimony whereof I erlix my signature.
