It is desirable to have such a container of simple, strong and rugged construction and to 'have the same of neat and uniform appearance. It is also'desirable to have such a container and the cover} therefor constructed and arranged so that there are no projecting parts adapted to, injure the handsof the persons handling the container or cover. As above stated, the portion projecting from the bottom side of the cover flares outwardly. It will be seen'that the portions 12 and 12 fit tightly about the angular portion of the edge of the central portion 12 which is formed by surfaces 12 and 12. From the above description it is seen that I- jects. The covers also lend themselves to being packed or nested in compact form such as shown in Fig. 6, so that the transportation cost can be kept at a low figure. The containers are often piled one on another with the covers thereon and it is a common practice to slide one container from another and across the top thereof. If there are ings in the top of the cover or if the edge of the rim projwcts above the top of the cover the same is quite apt to be torn loose as one heavy tub slides across the other. A cover fora container comprising a non-meta1li0 q central portion having its peripheral edge angular in radial cross section and a metallio rim crimped on and closely engaging said peripheral edge at both sides of said angle, said central portion having an annularzone adjacent its edge disposed below the portion surrounded by said zone, the inner portion of said rim extending partially over said zone and having its inner edge rolled into close engagement with ]Q the upper surface of said non-metallic portion within said zone and below the uppermost'surfa ce of said central portion.
