This invention relates to counter partition supports and is particularly concerned with a simple, novelmeanswhereby the dividing partitions between parallel cross partitions and vertical border members at the edges of a counter or table top may be securely held with respect to the cross partitions against movement and may be adjusted to different positions when desired. i

The top of a counter or table used in a store may be divided into a plurality of merchandise receiving and holding compartments.

In accomplishing this purpose vertical side and end border members are attached to the side and end edges of the top, and the space over the too within the border members is divided into bins or compartments which may be of varying dimensions as to length and 7 width. It is designed that vertical cross partitions, of glass preferably, shall extend across the table top between the side border members-and a co-pending application for patent filed by Edmund Morris, Serial No. 281,798, dated May 31, 1928, discloses. the means whereby a plurality of the vertical cross partitions may be located across the top and securely yet adj ustably held in any position in which placed. i j

The present invention is concerned with the dividing of the long compartments across a table top, madeby the vertical cross partiti'ons, into shorter compartments by the use of short dividing partitions, preferably of glass, disposed between and at right anglest-o adjacent cross partitions, or between the end cross partitions and the end border members attached to the top; and our invention is directed to the accomplishment of this end, as will appear from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which, I j Fig. 1 is a fragmentary perspective view illustrating a portion of a counter ora table top with anend and side border member secured thereto, a vertical cross partition, a short. dividing. partition and the means used to connectthe dividing partition to the cross partition.

The counter or table top 1 is of any desired construction, usually of wood, and at the side edges thereof vertical border members 2 are secured, while at the end edges similar vertical border members 3 are connected in any desired manner. The members 2 and 3 at their inner sides and adjacent their upper edges are provided with continuous downwardly and outwardly out grooves 4, as shown. Across the top and between the opposite side members 2 a plurality of vertical partitions 5, usually of glass, are placed and are held at their ends by connecting members members 6 and the way the same may be adjusted lengthwise of the grooves 4 and, when w thepartitions 5 are used therewith, securely held against movement with respect to the members 2 on which they are mounted, is fully shown and described in the co-pending application to which reference has previously been made. l

Over the. upper edge of adjacent vertical partitions 5a sheet metal connecting member of the form best shown in Fig. 4 is adapted to be placed ata plurality of points in accordance with the number of compartments into which the space between any two adjacent partitions 5, or between an end partition 5 and the end border member 3, is to be divided. Said connecting member at its upper portion has a flat vertical section 7 from which at its upper edge horizontal ledges 8 are turned at right angles. Each ledge at its inner end is provided with a-downturned tongue 9 there being a slot 10 cut in the up perend of the member to divide the ledges 8 and two tongues 9 from each other. The slot 10 extends partly downward into the section 7, as shown. At each edge of the section 7 outwardly turned flanges. 11 are made which progressively increase in width as the same approach each other and'which are extended downwardly and outwardly at an acute angle to the vertical to provide two downwardly extending guides 12. The guides 12 incline toward each other at their lower ends and are connected at their lower ends by an 1ntegral stirrup having horizontal legs 13 connected *by a cross member ll, the legs18 also converging toward'each other at their outer portions. It is evident that the connecting member described maybe used between any end par-- tition' 5 to hold one end of a dividing partition 17, the opposite end thereof extending toward the end border member 3. Said opposite end will be held in a flxturelike that indicated at 6 where the same abuts against the inner side of the border member 3.
