HUGH DICK, OF THREE-MILE BAY, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN THILL-COUI LINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178, 122, dated May 30, 1876 application filed April 1, 1876.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HUGH DIGK, of Three- Mile Ba y, in the county of Jefferson and State ofNewYork, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Thill-Ooupling; and I do hereby declare thatthefollowing is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a longitudinal vertical section of my thill-coupling, and Figs. 2, 3, and 4. are perspective detail views of the same. Fig. 5 is a front elevation thereof.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a thill-coupling, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawing, A represents the bottom plate or bar of an ordinary. wagonclip, which plate goes under the axle-tree. At
the front end of the plate A is formed the shackle B, in which is placed a half-circular or semi-tubular steel plate, 0, provided at each end at both upper edges with projecting lugs a a, which embrace the ears of the shackle, as shown. 'Through the bottom of the shackle, in the center, is passed a set-screw,
D, which enters the same, and is swiveled thereto.
E represents the thill-iron, having a cylindrical eye, G, formed on its end. This eye is inserted in the shackle within the semi-tubular plate 0, and is held by a bolt, 1), as shown, and a nut, d, on the end thereof. By now screwing up the bolt or set-screw D the plate 0 is held up tight against the eye G, preventing all noise and rattling.
This thill-oou'pling is simple and cheap in hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
HUGH DICK.
Witnesses:
G. SIMMONS, PETER BELLINGER.
