Description
A. HALL.
CARTRIDGES.
No.1'78,055. Patented May 30.1876.
I mm:
' ATTORNEYS.
UNIT D STATES PATENT. OFFICE.
ALBERT HALL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN CARTRIDGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,055, dated May 30, 1876; application filed May 9, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALBERT HALL, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Cartridge, of which the following is a Specification:
Figure 1 represents a vertical central section of my improved cartridge-shell. Fig. 2 is a top view of. the same; and Fig. 3, a top view of the diametrical anvil and socket-tube.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates to improvements in the construction of paper cartridgeshells, by which the same are'considerably stifi'ened, and the anvil rigidly and strongly secured in position in the shell.
The invention consists of a diametrical anvil, made in one piece with an encircling socket-tube, retained securely by the paper shell and the metallic eappieoe.
In the drawing, A rep-resents a diametrical anvil, that is bent in one piece with an encir- Y.
cling tube, 13, which fits tightly into the paper shell 0. The encircling or extension tube B of the anvil acts as a socket to the same,
and serves to strengthen the paper shell, while securing the rigid position of the anvil." The anvil socket-tube B is made with a slightlybent circumferential lip or flange, a, which bears on the edge of the paper shell, and prevents, by a cap, 'D, the displacement of the anvil in longitudinal direction. A cap, D, of the usual shape, is spun tightly over the flange of the anvil-tube B, and over the paper shell G, and'secured further to-the shell by small beads or indentations in the cap. The centrally-recessed and inwardly-bent part of the cap, that receives the small percussion-cap, fits over the center part of the anvil, and forms an additional support to the same, by which the more complete stili'eniug and interlocking of the parts, and, thereby, a shell of increased strength and resistance, is produced.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. As an improvement in. cartridge-shells, the diainetrical anvil of the shell, being ,encircled by a socket-tube, bent in one piece with the anvil, substantially as specified.
2. The combination of a paper shell and cap with a diametrical anvil and encircling socket-tube of one piece, secured by a circumferential end lip or flange, substantially as specified.
ALBERT HALL.
