In a co-pending application for "Letters Patent of the United States, executed by me suitof even date herewith, Ilhave disclosed a construction of display stand which is so ar-- ranged that packing cases or shipping cases of packages of merchandise can be readily accommodated in the lower portion of the stand, the top portion of the stand being arranged to receive some of these packagesfor display; The arrangement disclosed inthat application is such that the. top portion of the display stand, although made of such material as paper board, is so reenforced that it is made very stiff and fully capable of supporting a considerableamount of weight. fro ARVEY oonroimrron or Another feature of the invention relates to the provision of a knock-down construction of the top section the same being of such arrangement that whenknocked-down it can be '4 folded up into a relatively thin package whose length and width are substantially the same as the size ofone of the panels of the packing case itself. This will make it possible to ship the top section of the display stand at the same time that the packing case is shipped and with little or no additional expense in the operation.

the top section being Referring first to the arrangement shown in Figures 1, 2, 3, and 4, in this case the display stand includes a top section 10 which is shown as being removably mounted upon and supported by a base section 11. In the particular arrangement illustrated, this base section'11 comprises a packingand shipping case wherein packages of the merchandise may be contained and may be shipped and delivered.

The top section 10 includes a member which establishes the back panel 12 and side panels 13 and 14. These panels are of suitable shape and finish to give a pleasing display of the materials. There is a fioor panel or member designated in its entirety by the numeral 15.

The same includes a series of

16, 17, and 18, together with transverse reenforcing and supporting

rib portions

19, 20, 21 and 22. These rib portions are formed as pertions of the member 15 and they are established by properly folding the same as shown by the various fold lines indicated in the different figures. Each of the

19, 20, and 21 is preferably of double thickness and therefore of double stiffness and strength. The rib 22 may be single as illustrated or it may also be of double strength.

16 and 17. Preferably the panel 18 is tapered in width sothat at its extreme front end it becomes of the same size as the rib 22.

The side panels 13 and 14 are slotted in their lower portions as shown at 23, 24, and 25 to receive the projecting portions of the

19, 20, and 21. The front edges of the panels 13 and 14 terminate slightly in advance of the openings 25 and consequently the tapering portion of the panel 18 is properly accommodated and taken care of as illustrated in Figure l.

The projecting portions of the ribs are notched as shown at 26 in the different figures so that when the projecting portions have been extended through the

openings

23, 24, and25, said notches may be set down and engaged with the upper edge of the lower section 11, as clearly shown in Figure 1. This being the case, the parts are all hooked together in such a manner that they can not become disconnected as long as the top section 10 remains on top of the packing case or base member 11.

19, 20, 21 and 22 are of substantial vertical dimension so that the section 15 is greatly reenforced in strength and is able to carry a very considerable load without buckling.

The construction shown in Figures 5, 6, 7, and 8 is of slightly different arrangement in respect to details. In this case the top section 10 is similar in construction to that already explained.

However, the bottom section 15 is of somewhat different construction, and has its rear edge permanently attached to the lower edge of the back panel 12 as shown in Figure 7. For this purpose said section 15 has one-half of its rear lug 19 permanently connected to the lower edge of the back panel 12, as by glue or otherwise, and during shipment the section 15 may be laid over fiat against the back panel 12. hen the device is to be asbeing necessary in order to permit the parts to be properly manipulated due to the permanent attachment of the member 15 to the lower edge of the back panel 12.

In the construction of Figures 5, 6, 7 and 8, the base section is shown as comprising a special stand including the front panel 29 and the

side panels

30 and 31. The projecting portions of the ribs 19., 20, 21, and 22 are hooked over the upper edges of this base member as clearly illustrated.

If desired also a reenforcing bar 32 may be extended across between the lower rear portions of the

panels

30 and 31 as clearly shown in the different figures.

The arrangement as shown in Figures 5, 6, 7 and8 is especially intended for use in those cases where the packing and shipping case may be unsightly or where it may be desired to display the material therefrom simultaneously on more thanone stand.

While I have herein shown and described only certain embodiments of the features of my present invention, still I do not intend to limit myself thereto except as I may do so in the claims.

I claim: i

1. As a new article of manufacture, a shelf member adapted for mounting and support upon the upper portion of a base member, said shelf member comprising ablank cut to establish a rear panel together with forwardly extending side panels, and a floor for said shelf member, said floor comprising a series of horizontalsections located in the same horizontal plane, which plane passes in proximity to the lower portions of the panels aforesaid, and including aseries of ribs located intermediate between the consecutive edges of the floor sections and projecting beyond the edges ofthe side panels and adapted to-rest on and be supported by the base member aforesaid, substantially as de' scribed.
